Ranveer Singh totally stole everybody's limelight in the last year, first for his portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat and later, for his much-talked wedding with Deepika Padukone. What's more? He made sure to end 2018 with a bang by impressing everyone in Rohit Shetty's entertaining cop-drama Simmba, which is inching towards the 200-crore mark at the box-office.
Not to forget, the film enjoyed an opening weekend collection of over Rs 75 crore and it would not be wrong to say that earlier such privilege was only enjoyed by Bollywood's trio - Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. When asked to comment on it, Ranveer told Mid-Day, "It's critical for Hindi film business that the newer generation of stars like Ranbir [Kapoor] and I to take forward the work that our seniors have put in. They have built the eco-system of the business, and it's heartening to see our efforts paying off. Our numbers are respectable so far."
Well, we certainly agree with him on this one!

Meanwhile, the actor feels that Simmba's success has encouraged the makers to envision it as a franchise and asserts that no one other than Rohit can handle a film of this magnitude. "One can only fathom what will happen when the worlds of Simmba, Singham and Sooryavanshi [Shetty's next featuring Akshay Kumar] merge," he added.
On the work front, Ranveer will play a Mumbai-based rapper in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy next.
Apart from that, he will also be seen in Kapil Dev's biopic '83, directed by Kabir Khan.
