Movie Review : Shaadi Ke Side Effects

All of you out there who are unhappily married, or happily unmarried, or the other way around; Shaadi ke Side Effects is one movie that you shouldn't miss at all. Saket Chaudhary just doesn't go wrong with this one after his directorial debut, Pyaar Ke Side Effects. There have been movies that have dealt with the complications of a married life, but the treatment given to this one is very refreshing in its own way. Saket Chaudhary gets it bang on. The characters are very justifying to their actions there aren't any forced songs or unnecessary drama lingering in the movie. Saket who is even the writer of the film has nurtured the film like his baby trying to bring the best out of it, and boy! He succeeded and how!

The story revolves around an "initially" happily married urban couple, who seem to have just got the entire marriage thing right for themselves. Siddharth Roy (Farhan Akhtar) seemed to have cracked the code of a happy married life by going by the philosophy, "If I am wrong I say sorry and if my wife is wrong I say sorry". But is it really all that easy? Trisha Roy (Vidya Balan) has some weird but interesting ways to retain the spice in her married life, but what if things got too spicy and eventually bland? Shaadi Ke Side Effects deals with all this and various other complications of marriage.

The performance. It's very refreshing to watch Farhan Akhtar in a careless avatar, after his perfect athlete that he was in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. He does full justice to his role and yet again proves to be great at whatever he does. He looks great in the movie and pulls of the character with much ease. Vidya Balan is a delight to watch sans her saris. Though often criticized for her full frame, Vidya pulls off the role with grace. To some extend her character even demanded the same. However opposite they are in visual appearance, Farhan and Vidya share an awesome chemistry. As for the other characters, like Ram Kapoor and Purab Kohli do their small cameos very well, taking by the good actors they are themselves. Vir Das can't go wrong in his comic timing and only adds to the fun element. Other cameos like Ila Arun and Rati Agnihotri were also good and don't over power the story or shift focus from the main protagonists.

On the technical aspects the look of the film is colorful and doesn't go dull visually even in a single frame. Editor Amitabh Shukla does a great job making the movie precise and to the point. Arshad Sayed has given some amazing punch lines in the form of dialouges, which form an integral part of the movie. Pritam does a decent work with his songs in the film. Songs like Harry's not a brahmachari and IM sorry tumse pyaar hogaya, are foot tapping and some of the great tracks in the movie.

The only flaw in the movie is that it has a very gender biased point of view to the problem. The first half is rib tickling funny and well-paced, while the second have some litter moments and slows down a little but doesn't become boring at any point.

All in all this film should definitely be a part of your weekend plan. For those of whom movies are a source of entertainment and also for people who want to take something along with them, it's for all of you. All of you who are married, and know the Shaadi Ke Side Effects, you should go for this one just to know there are many more to come and for those of you all who are inquisitive to know the Shaadi Ke Side Effects, well this one's your manual.
