Ratings: **
Named to be the most awaited film of the year, ‘Tashan’ wasn’t able to
live up to it’s expectations even though Yash Raj Banner as always made
sure to leave no stone unturned to create a hype around the movie. The
vast marketing and promotional activities did attract theSaif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar in Tashan" src="http://www.india-forums.com/bollywood/images/uploads/tashan_big.jpg" align="right" border="" hspace="5" vspace="5"> opening
crowd, but it couldn’t survive even for few days at the box office.
The storyline of the film revolves around Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) who
cons the don Bhaiyaji (Anil Kapoor) with the help of Guruji (Saif Ali
Khan) and runs away with 25 crores even conning Guruji on the way.
Bhaiyaji hires Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar), a local goon from Kanpur
to find both Guruji and Pooja. Form here the hide and seek game starts
among the different confused characters of an equally confused movie.
Though debutant director Vijay Krishna Acharya shows some promise in
the execution, he couldn’t do much with the movie due to the lack of a
good script. Seems that even the writer was confused as to what did he
want to show in the movie. It just seems to be a cluster of individual
scenes. This once again proves that even the good actors can’t save a
movie if not supported by a powerful story narration.
What’s more, the music of the film is forced, too. Doesn’t look like a part of the story narration.
Pre-interval the film seems to have some kind of pace but the second
half of the film moves like an endless merry-go-round ride having
repetitive scenes in the process. If there is only one saving grace,
then it’s the cinematography of the film. The cameraman has captured
some real good shots of the landscapes.
Performance wise, all the actors have managed to look their best. Yes, looked not lived the characters or acted.
Overall Yash Raj Banner hasn’t been successful in dishing out a good
product from their film factory. Standing up to their reputation, we
are sure that Yash Raj banner would have learned from its mistake and
from now onwards, rather then spending crores on star cast and
locations, the banner would concentrate on the basics of film making by
taking on a good script to start off with.
