~ INTERMISSION ~
Half way through the first trimester of this new year, much awaited films like Chance pe Dance, Rann, Ishqiya, My Name is Khan have already having entertained audiences aplenty and afar. Definitely a block-buster-ish opening to the new year!
Bolly Curry now brings you a quick glimpse of what to expect in the second half of trimester-I, 2010.

For the most part the author has (under stern orders) refrained
from spoilers of any kind. A harmless slip here and there however, is
to be leniently ignored!
* Karthik Calling Karthik
Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone star in this romantic
mystery written and directed by Vijay Lalwani, co-produced by Ritesh
Sidhwani and Farhan himself. Audiences, before the release of official
trailers, had expected to witness a cute love story between boy, girl
and their unique cupid - the telephone!
Sneak peaks however, tell a different tale.
The storyline, as a matter of fact, focuses more on
a Farhan-Farhan aka Karthik-Karthik bonding over the phone... and
bingo! the name of the movie suddenly makes more sense!
The plot revolves around a loser Karthik version, who's life is
low, job is insignificant and social standing is next to nil. As for
Shonali (Deepika); the girl-next-cabin in his office whom he dotes on,
she may as well be unaware of his existence. Then the pragmatic well
wishing version of Karthik makes appearance in the form of a
phone-double, who takes it upon himself to sort out Karthik's life -
make him the man! And hence begins the entertaining, and extremely enigmatic adventure.
How it will unravel, whether or not the double is in fact a
reality or merely a fragment of Karthik's wanabe-a-star mind, what
circumstances will befall Shonali and Karthik's love story courtesy
this strange secret he hides - are questions the movie itself can
answer.
With peppy and light love tracks, an intriguing storyline, old
faces paired to make a fresh on screen couple, and popular television
names like Ram Kapoor and Vivaan Bhatena marking the cast - Karthik Calling Karthik gives you every reason to eagerly await its release on February 26th.
* Teen Patti
For the real gamers, title Teen Patti gives some hint. The
promising thriller revolves around a genius Indian mathematician Venkat
(Amitabh Bachchan) who devises an ingenious equation that can
challenge, revise and literally revolutionize the study of probability
and randomness in Mathematics.
Perci Trachtenberg (Academy Awards winner
Ben Kingsley) is a renowned mathematician himself, and in a chance
encounter at local thriving casino in London, Venkat shares his finding
with Perci. Additionally, he talks of the dark guilt that burdens his
mind on account of this finding. The narrative swiftly shifts back home
to reveal Venkat and his bonding with a younger, ambitious colleague
Shantanu (Madhvan) who had talked Venkat into putting this theory to
test by attempting to crack the game plan of Teen Patti (a poker game)
and judging its credibility.
As it turns out, in exploring the option over the spread of gambling addas in
Mumbai, the two men, older one driven by research, and the younger by
profit, find themselves trapped in a mire of greed and vile standards.
It ends in a tragedy that threatens their careers, and revolts their
innermost conscience. Back in London, on hearing the entire narrative
from Venkat, Perci believes the work is truly priceless, and cannot be
allowed to diminish.
Written by Shiv Kumar Subramanium and director Leena Yadav, the latter of Shabd fame, and produced by Ambika Hinduja, Teen Patti is due for release on February 26th.
A convincing entertainer, paced and riveting, it is a tale that will keep you guessing to the very end.
* Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge
A comic delving into the complications created by the infinitely
extended stay of distant relative, in the life of a nuclear family in
Mumbai.
The routine affairs of happily married couple Puneet (Ajay Devgan)
and Munmun (Konkana Sen Sharma) witnesses more than a minor share of
disruption at the entry of a self claimed Chacha ji (Paresh Rawal) who plants himself stubbornly, and immovably in their, until then, peaceful lives and home.
Organization in the house has suddenly gone for a toss, the regime
is only as commanded by this senior in the family, and there seems to
be no way to insinuate, embarrass, offend, or infuriate the old man
enough so he would pack his bags and leave. What we get then is a
thorough doze of laughter in the face of countless ploys devised by the
couple to rid themselves of the imposed host-hood, busted by the oldie
who just can't be ousted!
A Warner Bros (India) and Wide Frame Films production, written and directed by Ashwini Dhir, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? is a rib tickling package you must avail beginning 5th March.
* Right Yaa Wrong
The plotting of this movie is exactly the choice its title
presents. A battle of power and singular authority in the police
department brings colleagues and 'friends' Ajay Singh (Sunny Deol) and
Rane (Irfan Khan) face-to-face as archrivals.
When wife (Esha Kopikar) is found brutally murdered, on account of
far reaching benefits that hubby Ajay becomes entitled to, Rane frames
him as the prime suspect. Even as incidences and proofs keep turning
out in his disfavor, Ajay insists on his innocence.
The twist in the story however, is Rane's sister Vidya (Konkana
Sen) who as it turns out openly supports, much to the angst of her own
brother, the accused and alleged murderer Ajay Singh. In the unraveling
of a gruesome crime come to surface some dark hidden secrets, and Ajay
eventually devices his own plan to solve the mystery with only Vidya on
his side.
Coming from director Neeraj Pathak, who had previously written the scripts for Pardes and Apne, the story offers to be an exceptional action thriller. As for its outcome at BO, March 12th will tell us whether a comeback on screen on Sunny's part was Right Yaa Wrong!
* Hum Tum Aur Ghost
The title of this movie, which was initially meant to be Kaun Bola?, is not all that has changed over the course of its making. Not entirely satisfied with friend and director Kabeer Kaushik's final product, Arshad Warsi has taken complete control over the post production of this debut movie under his home banner. But lets put aside these behind-the-scenes squabbles.
Hum Tum Aur Ghost tells the story of a simple man in love.
Except when Armaan (Arshad) confesses about his interactions with the
dead, his girl friend (no usual lady) is miffed by his insistence at
the impossible suggestion rather than spooked. Retaliating to her
insult, the ghosts intend to teach her a lesson. Their
actions boomerang and affect Armaan's life, bringing forth a comic case
of never ending complications for Armaan as he juggles between his
faltering love life and the rare gift which has cursed his being.
Starring also, Dia Mirza, Sandhya Mridul, and Boman Irani; this
comedy brings out an entirely new concept of obstacles in the path of
true love - a family watch that insists you book your seats for the 26th of March, well in advance!
* Prince - Its Showtime!
The additive phrase in the title, according to director Kookie
Gulati, holds its significance for being the 'superhero' phrase
repeated time and again by Prince (Vivek Oberoi) in the movie. The
only thing is, our superhero here happens to be the bad guy.
A new generation gangster with darker standards of glory, deeper
intents of avarice, and no detaining norms; Prince indulges in the
greatest schemed robbery of his life, leading him to a completely
unexpected scenario. For waking up the morning after, he is a man with
a gunshot wound on his arm that he is clueless about. Prince also
remains unaware of his true identity and the nature of his work; as
well as the multiple government agencies and underworld rivals who are
all on his back for the crime he had committed.
In his quest to rediscover his identity and the life he had
previously led, he comes to know himself as a man called Prince, who
worked for another called Sarang. It hardly helps to have three
different women, (Nandana Sen, Neeru Singh, and Aruna Shields) claim to
be his love interest, Maya.
He further learns of the deadly dangers he is faced with from his
numerous legal and illegal enemies. Prince is a wanted man, the only
one meant to know the whereabouts of his steal, which harbors the
secret of his lost memory, and much more that looms over the very human
existence. In his struggle to find out the truth, and survive, there is
no one he can trust... A fast action thriller with guns, gadgets, and girls (Bond style!), the movie is set to release on March 26th.
* Well Done Abba
Furthering the establishment of his new found trend, the 'middle cinema' which strikes a balance between the art documentaries and commercial projects, Shyam Bengal brings us another masterpiece after Welcome to Sajjanpur, his previous hit.
Well Done Abba revolves around Armaan Ali (Boman Irani) who
goes off unannounced on a self declared three month break. Upon his
return, faced with a confrontation with his livid boss he weaves for
himself an impossible web-tale of a twin brother Rehman Ali (Boman
again, of course!), his weird-eccentric wife (Illa Arun) and a daughter
who's wedding stalled his plans and kept him from work.
A rather impulsively told, replete with loop holes narrative that
brings upon Armaan a myriad of situations which intend to, through the
witty dialogues and sound script, convey a realistic message in the
lighter vein. Minisha Lamba plays the educated, broad minded daughter.
