Types of Friendships in B-Town

There is a strange magic in the bonds that lighten hearts; in the tears-inducing, throat-exposing laughter; in the casual one armed embrace; in the hug that shares all the pain; in the long drawn out telephone conversations; in the planning and plotting of cunning minds, and in that one person who heals the world with his or her mere presence. Likewise, friendships come in different shapes, sizes and types, and that is what makes this bond all the more magical. Today, BollyCurry will take a detour through movies that gives us a glimpse of different types of friendships in Bollywood.

The highlight of Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) is the sibling bond between Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra's characters. Right from sharing deepest secrets to standing up for each other, their friendship not only manages to touch the heart but leave its mark there. Another movie that shows bone-deep friendship between siblings is Iqbal (2005), where a deaf and mute aspiring cricketer becomes a successful cricketer because of the hard work his younger sister puts in. Having a sibling doesn't only mean sharing the same genes, it also means sharing fears, dreams and aspirations. Truly, when bonds are deep, words become meaningless and unnecessary. Silence is everything.

 

There are times when two people walk together on the pathways of life as friends. However, somewhere along this journey, there is a subtle shift in the relationship, a spark of electricity that causes an abrupt change of heart. Suddenly the heart starts beating erratically, the green monster of jealousy starts clawing the insides and the comfortable companionship takes a backseat as the heart suffers from pangs of love. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) is one such movie remembered for the eternal friendship between Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol). Another movie which strung the chords of millions of hearts was Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na(2008).  While everyone tries to find a good friend in the one they love, others are lucky to find love in their best friends. When one ends up finding love in their best friend, the relationship becomes all the more special.

 

Three might be a crowd as far as lovers are concerned, but when three hearts are eternally connected by a single thread of friendship, the element of fun, mischief and trust increases tenfold. There are movies which focus on the strong bond of friendship between three persons, like: Dil Chahta Hai (2001), where the three friends take a road trip to Goa; 3 idiots (2009), where three classmates become friends for life and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), where three friends meet up for a bachelor trip. These are the kind of movies that make you long for true friends and their simple ways of explaining the difference between staying alive and living and the difference between merely surviving and really thriving.

 

Sometimes we try so hard to make it to the destination that we miss out on the journey. Sometimes in our haste to reach to the end of the story, we skip a few chapters. And so we need friends to make us enjoy the journey of life and to live the story. Whether it is school, college, job or just life, true friends make it worthwhile.
