Rustom Trailer Review

After his outing as Sandy/Sundi in the mind numbing comic caper Housefull 3the king of action, Akshay Kumar, is back with Rustom. Based on the real life story behind the Nanavati Case, Kumar essays the character of Rustom Pavri, inspired by the naval officer K.M. Nanavati. Produced by Zee Studios, Friday Filmworks, Cape of Good Films and KriArj Entertainment, Rustom is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. It also stars Ileana D'Cruz as Pavri's wife. Additionally, Arjan Bajwa stars as the slain paramour and Esha Gupta as his sister.

The trailer begins with a statement informing the audience how a sensational case of a naval officer led to the end of the jury system in India. The audience is then introduced to Commander Rustom Pavri, a decorated naval officer who gets married to D'Cruz's character. The two spend some happy moments together and all seem hunky dory with the couple. However, the audience is in for a rude shock when it is apparent that Mrs. Pavri is involved in an extra marital affair. Upon finding out, Rustom ends up shooting her lover and is taken to court where he pleads not guilty. Meanwhile, the victim's sister is out to extract justice for her brother's death, as she claims that it was a clear case of premeditated murder. The story only seems to get murkier from then on as important naval documents, which somehow has a connection to Pavri, mysteriously disappears. The trailer ends with Rustom declaring that it is all about winning the game (of chess, metaphorically), and it does not matter whether the pawn is sacrificed or the queen.

The trailer is well paced and manages to invoke interest amongst the audience. By the end, we are left intrigued by this puzzle and would gladly head to the theatres to learn the full story behind the murder. The dialogues featured are quite crisp, and one can anticipate some well written lines in the movie. Kumar's portrayal of the naval commander is bang on, whether it was playing a vengeful husband or a calculative and cunning man. D'Cruz managed to hold on her own, while Gupta looks quite comfortable in the sensuous looking, justice - seeking sister.

The movie is set in the late 50s and the director has captured the era quite beautifully. Whether it is the 50s courthouse, or the insides of a quaint house, each set adheres to the era. The costumes are spectacular, particularly the gowns and sarees worn by the female leads. The cinematographer and art director of Rustom need to be appreciated for their brilliant work in this movie.

Not much music was featured in the trailer, but what we did hear was quite melodious. The music composers include the talented Ankit Tiwari, Jeet Ganguly, Raghav Sachar, and Arko Pravo Mukherjee. From the ensemble listed above, we are sure that the songs will be worth listening to, especially the romantic ballad featured in the trailer.

Rustom comes from the makers of Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015). With this in mind, we expect this flick to be just as successful. The makers seem to have no stone left unturned to deliver the story in the best way possible, and the trailer definitely set the pace for that. The audience is left with high expectations from the movie and one can only hope that the makers will deliver.

Rustom will be released in theatres on the 12th August, and regardless of whether or not you are a fan of Akshay Kumar, we strongly recommend that you give the movie a try.
