It is said that the relationship between a brother and sister can not be described in words. The bond is pure, divine and strong. It carries the warmth of love, sense of protection, family, friendship, a few tiffs, a smidge of fights and ultimately, the bond becomes your life. So in light of the beautiful day of Raksha Bandhan that passed a few days ago, BollyCurry lists a few movies which depict the sacred bond shared between a brother and sister.

Dev Anand & Zeenat Aman - Hare Rama Hare Krishna

"Phoolon ka taaron ka, sabka kehna hai. Ek hazaaron mein, meri behna hai"With these lyrics, the song has been immortalized and achieved a cult status as it depicts a brother's unending love for his sister. The core plot of the movie revolves around a brother's journey to find his estranged sister and save her from the cruel tangles of drug mafias and her spiraling life from its addiction. It is a heart warming story of a brother's struggle against the world for his sister, of how ultimately he ends up saving her only to lose her again. It truly reflects the sibling duo and his immense faith in it that they will unite one day.

Mohnish Behl & Neelam KothariHum Saath-Saath Hain

The 1999 family blockbuster is all about family and relationships, be it the relationship between a mother and her sons, husband and wife, lovers and ultimately siblings. Though the movie focused more on the relationship between the brothers their mother, Hum Saath-Saath Hain also beautifully depicted the love between the brothers and their sole sister. When Vivek (Mohnish Behl) utters to his step-sister Sangeeta (Neelam), "Tere saath dukh mere, mere saare sukh tere", not only it moved the estranged mother's heart, it also is synonymous with the movie's title.

Sanjay Suri & Juhi Chawla - My Brother...Nikhil

The brother protecting the honor and respect of his sister is what society expects of this relationship, but what happens when the role reverses? If brothers can shield their sisters from harm, why can't the sisters do the same? When they do, they play the role with commitment and integrity. This is the plot of the My Brother...Nikhil. The film tells the story of a swimming champion, Nikhil, whose world comes crashing down when he is diagnosed with HIV. He ends up being shunned from the society and thus, with very little self pride. This is when his elder sister fights the world, including her family, to free his brother and return his lost status in the society hierarchy.

Shreyas Talpade & Shweta Pandit - Iqbal

The movie of a deaf-mute boy, portrays the relationship between Iqbal and Khadija as the latter helps the former to achieve his dream - a simple goal of being selected in the national Indian cricket team. His aim is passionately shared by Khadija and along his journey, she plays his mentor, his support and his strength. It's a soul stirring movie about the dreams of a young boy and what makes it all the more special is the realistic portrayal of the sibling relationship. A must watch on this Raksha Bandhan!

Shah Rukh Khan & Aishwarya Rai BachchanJosh

The movie released in 2000 is still remembered for two main reasons; chartbuster music and Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing a brother and sister for the first time on the silver screen. Set in the picturesque locations of Goa where gang wars are rampant, Max (SRK) and Shirley (Aishwarya) are orphans who grew up with each other in the name of family. They start off as fun people, playing pranks and sharing every moment with each other. However, when crisis strikes, she has to choose between the man she loves and her brother, her loyalties are divided and this reflects when she chooses her brother. It truly depicts that sibling bonds are forever.

Arbaaz Khan & KajolPyaar Kiya To Darna Kya

Over-protective yet dotting elder brothers are the pride of sisters, and this forms the premise of this movie. Vishaal (Arbaaz Khan) is the intense, brooding older brother while Muskaan (Kajol Devgn) is the young, chirpy one and needless to say, the soul of his life. When he senses that she has fallen for a man who he deems incompetent, he does his best to discourage the young lover and save her life. The sibling bond between the two, where he persistently keeps an eye on her and acts like a wall to protect her from any kind of possible harm, is the perfect portrayal of the protective streak that brothers have for their sisters.

Salman Khan & Ashwini Bhave
Bandhan

There is a rule some follow when they are in love - love everything that your loved one loves. Raju (Salman Khan) loves his older sister Pooja (Ashwini Bhave) and she is equally fond of him. When she gets married to a rich landlord, she takes along her then young brother to her new house. Sensing his sister's love for her husband, Raju thinks it is his duty to follow every word of his brother-in-law like it is the law, knowing that by doing so, he would only ensure the happiness of his sister when she sees the two most precious men in her life getting along well. So when his sister's married life goes through some crisis, he does all he can to save it. The movie shows the sacrificial side of the brother-sister relationship where one sacrifices his happiness to ensure the joy of other.

Prateik Babbar & Genelia D'souza - Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Siblings are your first best friends, even when you don't even know the meaning of the word. Aditi (Genelia D'Souza) and Amit (Prateik Babbar) are shown as two bickering siblings. When she finally asks him for the reason of his rude behavior with her, the one who used to be her best friend, he replies that he does it to get her attention. As she has moved on from being his best friends and he wasn't able to do so, he explains that he misses her and that is why he teases her; to make her aware of his presence. However, the sweetest part of their relationship was not him missing her all these years despite living in the same household, but him letting her go to be with the man she loves, the very man he was so fond of insulting. Because, at the end of the day, her happiness is what matters the most.

Brothers and sisters, be friends or foes, share a relation that is beyond explanation. No third person is needed to sow the seeds of this bond, it is a relation which only the sister-brother can understand. It's a bond that is precious and to be cherished!
