Amitabh wins National Award!

Bollywood Legend, Amitabh Bachchan has gone on to win for himself the National Award for home production, Paa. This 2009 blockbuster, also starring son Abhishek Bachchan and actress Vidya Balan, was inspired by the Hollywood movie Jack, the story of a 14 year old boy (played by Amitabh in Paa) who suffers from the rare disorder of progeria.

He has been bestowed with the honorable Best Actor award at the 57th National Film awards ceremony. The actor has earlier won two National awards for his roles in the movies Agneepath and Hum. Becoming his third achievement, the 2009 mega hit Paa also fetched veteran actress Arundhati Nag the best supporting actress award.

Others to join the league were Ananya Chaterjee, Best Actress for Aabo Hawa while Rituparno Ghosh has been adjudged best director and Farooq Sheikh the Best Supporting actor for Lahore.

The awards were announced by the head of the adjudicating panel, Ramesh Sippy. The super successful Hindi film 3 Idiots was in the limelight once again as it bagged three awards in the categories of Best Popular film, Best Director and Best Producer. Malayalam film Kutty Shrank won the Best Film award and Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba was awarded the Best Film on Social Issues. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra's Dilli-6 won the award for best film on National Integration.
