Vidya Balan riding high!

Both of her latest releases, Paa and Ishiqya have done more than just well. While one has garnered her audiences' praise and a chance to work with both Bachchans at once; the other has gotten her heavy critical acclaim. For playing a female lead with a gray shade without being over shadowed, as a co-star to the phenomenal Naseeruddin Shah, and the ever entertaining Arshad Warsi, is indeed some feat!

Also, with No one killed Jessica in her kitty, and a proposed project with Gulzar in the near future, Vidya is surely doing things the right way.

But talking to Vidya takes the conversation another way. For the actress has her comments to make with regards to the running of the Indian Cinema now days. She says, that formula films are no longer in vogue.

Even the younger actors who are starting off today, are trying their different genres, she says, citing Ranbir Kapoor's Wake Up Sid as an example. A story wherein, neither the boy nor the girl, are definitive lovers in conventional terms. Yet the situation and characterization of the film is what the youth of today can relate to. For as long as someone narrates an engaging story, said Vidya, the film is bound to do quite well.

There are other times, she adds on a careful after note, when certain films work because of the banner that backs them. Going back to the example of Wake Up Sid,  she indicates how the promotions all by themselves had made a mark because it was a Karan Johar movie, backed by Dharma Productions. The good thing is, that the impact of names associated with a movie can only work as far as the trailers. Post release, the audiences judge the script as much, which helps sustain the film at box office.

At the end, we say, success comes with consistency only to those who work with the right goals. And for admitting and confessing that fact Vidya, you have to be admired!
