What To Wear When You're Expecting: The Bollywood Edition

Pregnancy is said to make a woman glow. But that doesn't mean that she shouldn't dress up a little to flaunt that glow. Whether one wants to flaunt that baby bump a la the ravishing Kareena Kapoor Khan, or conceal it, these tips will make sure all mommy-to-be's look good while staying comfortable!

Choose The Right Colour

To accentuate one's fuller figure and emphasise the baby bump, pick a solid colour, preferably deeper, darker shades. A single colour prevents distraction thereby focusing all attention to the radiant face.

Of course, if one wants to hide the bump, opt instead for patterns - more block prints and floral motifs as they draw the eye to the design rather than the bump.

From The Top

Now is the time to bring out the knee-length and hip-length kurtas and tunics. These go well with pretty much any type of pants, be it tights, jeans, or patiala salwars. Pick a top that emphasises the bust line, as this would makes the body look more curvy. Tops with longer sleeves make flabby arms less obvious, and empire-line tops flare out at the stomach, camouflaging the baby bump. These always make one look fashionable and chic.

Layering also draws the eye away from the baby bump and adds a level of style if done well.

To The Bottoms

Gone are the days of unfashionable but comfortable maternity wear. Now, mummies-to-be can be comfortable and look great at the same time. Maternity jeans with expandable waistlines are easily available these days and they allow for easy movement. Fashionable dungarees are also an option, which not only look good but also provide support for the baby bump!

Of course, one may want to opt for skirts. These also come in maternity options and are both functional as well as pretty! Opt for versatile colours like brown, grey, black and ash, or go for a printed option. These can be worn at pretty much any occasion.

Wear That Dress

One can never go wrong with knee-length dresses in dark shades, especially those that are a little airy around the mid-section. Or even better, a tunic style dress! Tunics are all the rage all the time, looking both comfortable and fashionable. Long sleeves and deep necklines will emphasise the right places.

Another option is the kaftan. The loose drape of the cloth makes the clothing in question look classy, while still being extremely comfortable.

Bling It Up
No outfit is complete without a little accessorising. Play around with bags and beads before stepping out of the house. Wear a little light make up. One's shoes should be comfy, but they can still look good! Avoid stilettos and opt for ballet shoes or pumps instead.

So there you have it. Some of our favourite Bollywood celebrities have opted for these styles during their pregnancies, and I, for one, think these trends are one of class and comfort. What do you think of these looks for some yummy mummies?
