Spotted: Diwali Extravaganza

Diwali is a time of festivities to be celebrated with family and friends. With festivities comes extravagant clothes, lots of food, colours, lights, and much more. When it comes to extravagant clothes, our Bollywood celebs are not ones to be left behind. The Fashion Police wishes all a Happy Diwali and gets down to business as we examine some of the outfits spotted throughout Tinsel Town at the various Diwali parties.

First up is the gorgeous Aditi Rao Hydari who attended the Bachchans' Diwali party. Dressed in a Rimple and Narula ivory and gold anarkali, Hydari paired the dress with a knotted-up hairdo, a small red bindi, red lips, gold jhumke and ring from Aquamarine, and a matching chain-strap bag. Her look was every bit desi and spectacular as Diwali outfits are meant to be. We especially loved the low-key makeup as it let the anarkali be the centre of attention.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended her party in a heavily embroidered pink Manish Malhotra anarkali. She accompanied the look with diamond and emerald jewellery, open hair, red lips, and pink cheeks. To avoid sounding rude, Bachchan looked beautiful neck up. Neck down is a different story. The dress is one that should be locked in a dark well and the key should be thrown down another dark well.

Sonakshi Sinha was also in attendance at the Bachchans' Diwali bash. She rocked up at the event in a black Ridhi Mehra jumpsuit with a cape detail featuring metallic floral embroidery on the waist and the neck. She added a chic hairdo with loose strands, silver earrings, a black bindi, and pink lips. Sinha looked gorgeous and different, compelling us to give her a thumbs-up. We do wish she had added a bracelet or two though.

Fashionista Sonam Kapoor made herself known in a gorgeous white Anamika Khanna saree before heading back to her own Diwali party. The sheer embroidered saree worked wonders with the Sunita Kapoor jewellery where the long multi-strand necklace made Kapoor look like a regal princess indeed. Though we do feel that the face lacked colour. Red lips and pink cheeks would have added the much needed glow to her face. The choker could have been skipped as well, though we do love the braided, open hairdo.

One of the men in attendance was the Greek God himself, Hrithik Roshan. Dressed top to bottom in black, Roshan kept it simple in a kurta and pyjamas ensemble with black sandals. The side-swept hair and the clean face made us all very well pleased indeed. Sometimes simple is best and in Roshan's case simple is always the best.

Varun Dhawan brought colour to the men's side with a reddish-orange kurta, ivory pyjamas, and brown jootis. His signature hairdo, slight stubble and  bunched-up sleeves made the look both formal and friendly. However, we really do wish he would do something new and exciting with his hair. Other than that, thumbs-up.

We also spotted quirky master Ranveer Singh in attendance at the party. Looks like he took his upcoming role of Bajirao to heart and dressed up traditionally  in a cream dhoti-kurta with a royal turban by Sabyasachi. Coincidentally, Deepika Padukone also attended the event in an outfit by the same designer. Singh, though, pleased us well. The regal look made us stand up and take notice and how. Though we do wish he had worn jootis instead of sandals.

From the Bachchan party we now head to a few other parties around town. Esha Gupta was in attendance at one such event in Mumbai. She wore an icy-blue Neha Gupta salwar suit with silver-toned accessories, Farah Khan Ali earrings, open side-swept hair, and hot pink lips. While the suit seemed too old-fashioned, Gupta carried it off with panache and the brown hair and pink lips added the much-needed colour to the look.
Rating: 3.5/5

Jacqueline Fernandes appeared at a Diwali private party in a Shehlaa anarkali suit with a Jimmy Choo clutch, matching strappy sandals, wavy hair, and a pair of earrings. The colour of the suit was nice, but it did nothing to help Fernandes. We couldn't help but notice that there didn't seem to be any colour on Fernandes's face - dull make-up with a light-coloured suit is never the way to go. Additionally, a bracelet or two matching the earrings would have helped the bare hands. It started off well, but there is still a lot that needs to be done about this look.
Rating: 2.5/5

We wrap up this edition with Shahid Kapoor. Kapoor attended Anil and Sonam Kapoor's Diwali party hand-in-hand with wife, Mira Rajput Kapoor. Kapoor kept it simple with a black kurta, white pyjamas, and black dress shoes. His Udta Punjab look did make us take note, but more than that was the large smile and the way he held his wife's hand. The look has its downsides as well. Who wears dress shoes with a traditional outfit? Sandals like Roshan's or even jootis like Dhawan's would have really worked much better. Nonetheless, we're not complaining. Much.
Rating: 3.5/5

Tinsel Town saw many Diwali parties and many new and unique looks. The above were just a few that the Fashion Police happened to spot in the sea of outfits. Some worked, some didn't, but we must agree that everyone kept their attires traditional. The Fashion Police is mightily pleased and until the next event, we sign off with a smile on our faces.
