Fashion Face-Off: Bollywood vs Hollywood

Award ceremonies - exhaustingly long and at times superfluous occasions designed for movie stars to put on their best garbs and have a good night out. While I risk insanity watching celebs strut the red carpet as they try and fail to impress my judgmental eyes - let's be honest here, I like to kickback and relax just as the next fiery fruit - but this is my job, I take pleasure in enlightening you with the rights and wrongs of the fashion world. Ah! Then it is indeed your good fortune that I, the ever enchanting Ms. Bolly Chili, have graced you with my presence once more. This time though, for one of my favorite reasons - a fashion face-off, that too of the best kind where the East meets the West.

The host of this year's Filmfare Awards, Priyanka Chopra, walked the event's red carpet in a strapless Alexander McQueen black viscose crepe gown with a beaded peplum, a bustier bodice and a floor sweeping hem. First, let's take a moment to appreciate the dress for what is it is - simple elegance. The ornate beading and exquisite gold leaf embroidery on the peplum detailing turned this modest black dress into a piece of artwork. Getting back to the one wearing the dress, how regal Ms. Chopra looked. No complaints from me there. The dress hugged her body in all the right places and accentuated her womanly curves. Hair, in a side swept faux-bob, was classy yet edgy and the perfect choice to show off those enviable pair of Atelier Mon earrings. I'd like to get my hands on those! So, while I sat, appreciating the dress in all its glory and thinking inapt thoughts about those earrings, I was overcome with a strong sense of deja vu. Oh yes! I had seen this dress before on another beautiful creature, only a few weeks back!

Miss. PeeCee's face-off adversary, Naomie Harris, wore the same McQueen gown back in December at the royal premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. How alluring Ms. Harris looked. Her skin was practically glistening under the lights. The subject of my visit, the gown, fitted her to a T and showcased her slender physique and perfectly toned arms. The cone shaped drop diamond earrings and rings added just a touch of extra sparkle to her look.I stop salivating over those earrings only to tell you that they are by Londoner, Jessica McCormack. As if she didn't look stunning enough, Ms. Harris paired her elegant gown with a pair of Alexander McQueen sandals featuring a curved stiletto, black leather straps and black and red marbled platform detail. In case you are curious and want to check them out, they are from the Spring 2014 collection. Her hair, in loose curls and swept back, was beautiful and classy. Subtle make-up inclusive of nude lipstick was just the right amount. While I don't dish out compliments everyday - compliments aren't meant to be handed out recklessly - this is undoubtedly Ms. Harris' best look yet. I must commend her (and her stylist) for that!

It is with a heavy heart I say that this face-off has me stumped. Ms. BC is never stumped, you say? Sadly, au contraire! I blame it on the lack of sleep, crimes of fashion are keeping me up at night. This battle of the woods is so close, it has me taking a second look. And just like that, my mind is made. The victory in this fashion face-off goes to - as I wait for the imaginary drum roll to cease - Priyanka Chopra! As good as Ms. Harris looked in her version of the McQueen gown, the exquisite creation was created for the beauty queen-turned-actress-turned-singer-turned-the newest Guess model. That faux-bob is a work of art and the extra clinch at the fishtail makes me weak at the knees while she stands taller and look more put together.

Finally a win for my beloved Bollywood! It's time for a celebration, methinks. I shall catwalk off; stores to hit, a wardrobe to restock, bank card to rinse. The sweet anticipation kills me! Cheerio my darlings and I eagerly await till we meet again with another beautiful heart to heart.
