We are back yet again with yet another feature article! This time we bring you some of our favorite movies which star real life father and son duos and sometimes even trios!

The Deols

Action man of Bollywood, Dharmendra and his two sons Sunny and Bobby Deol have appeared alongside in movies Apne and the recently released comedy Yamla Pagla Deewana.

Apne (2007) was the story of the rift between a boxing obsessed father and his eldest son, one who dreamed of a different career. When the eldest son did not fulfill his father's dream, the two sadly drifted apart. The struggle to unite father and the estranged elder son by the younger son using the very sport that drove them apart is the main focus of the movie.

The trio was seen once again on the silver screen in Yamla Pagla Deewana. It is a story of a man who discovers after nearly two decades that his father and brother are still alive. In the film, the character Paramveer Singh Dhillon (Sunny Deol) reunites with his family, his old culture and goes through the journey of a lifetime with some hilarious situations thrown along the way.

The Bachchans

Our second father-son duo of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, where seen in a whole host of movies which include, Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Sarkar Raj (2005) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Sarkar Raj (2008) and again in Paa (2009).

Bunty Aur Babli, the story of two notorious thieves Rakesh (Abhishek Bachchan) and Vimmi (Rani Mukherjee) who go by the names of Bunty and Babli. Amitabh plays the cop, Dashrath Singh, who is determined to arrest the two crooks. The films takes us through the journey of the couple from common middle classed Indians to (in)famous thieves and finally a happy family!

Sarkar and its sequel Sarkar Raj, was the first time the world saw Big B and Jr B step into the shoes of father and son for the silver screen. Both movies, inspired by the Hollywood movie The Godfather sees Amitabh playing Sarkar, a man of power handing justice to those the law fails to do so through unconventional methods. Through a crude plot, Sarkar gets arrested which leads his son, Jr B taking up his place who immediately sees to it that his father is also given justice though the same means of his father.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna again saw the pair playing a father-son duo. The movie explored themes of adultery and extramarital affairs where Abhishek is cheated on by his wife (played by Rani Mukherji) with Shah Rukh Khan's character who is married to Preity Zinta. Big B dies half way through the movie after having found out about the betrayal of his daughter-in-law with the message to leave his son and move on. The rest of the movie is about how they deal with their consequences.

Thee vastly successful Paa had a strongly father-son plotline. In a full role reversal, Big B the son and Abhishek is the father. The 13 year old kid (Amitabh) suffers from Progeria Syndrome, a rare genetic defect that presents signs of aging at a very young age. The movie is about the journey of the child suffering from the syndrome and his family.

The Dutts

The father-son duo of Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Dutt has been seen together in Kshatriya (1993) and Munnabhai M.B.B.S (2003).

Kshatriya was the story of two royal families that have at feud with each other for a long time. However, everything changes with the arrival of the new generation because this time, the sons of both families were not enemies but best of friends. The struggle to change enmity to friendship between both families endeavored by Vikram (Sanjay) and Viney (Sunny Deol) is the focus of the movie.

Munnabhai M.B.B.S is the story of a gangster who enjoys his stress-free life but is forced to don the character of a doctor to impress his parents. But things go awry when he meets a childhood friend and falls in love with her. She's a doctor and the father of the girl (Boman Irani), the main doctor of the hospital she works in, creates a problem for Munnabhai upon the arrival of his parents. To make matters worse, Irani ends up being the Dean of the Medical School that he enrolls in to fix his mistakes and become a true doctor!

The Khans

Father and son duo Fardeen Khan and Feroz Khan were also seen on screen for films Janasheen (2003) and Ek Khiladi ek Haseena (2005).

Janasheen focuses on a young man (Fardeen) who refuses to take up any kind of responsibility in his father's vast business. He even refuses to get involved when his father dies and leaves him everything, instead opting to sell it to a potential buyer (Feroz). The twist in the tale comes when Feroz meets Fardeen and finds him to bear a striking resemblance to his own dead son and wants him to take over all his businesses. Who will win in this battle of wills is what the movie is all about!

Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena is about a conman named Arjun (Fardeen) who has a plan for everything. However, everything gets chaotic when he meets Natasha (Koena Mitra) a woman lured into his world who has a plan of her own. Throw in a host of other characters (including Feroz), who are all looking to make a quick buck and what we get is an intricate game where everyone is playing but only one will ultimately win!

The Roshans

One of the classic hits of Bollywood, Koi Mil Gaya (2003) featured the father-son duo of Hrithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan. Koi Mil Gaya is the story of a young man who is mentally challenged due to an accident in which his father also dies. The movie focuses on the journey of Rohit (Hrithik) who finds an alien who gives him the gift of a normal life. Trouble approaches when the town finds out about it and scientists want to capture the alien. With everyone after the alien, it is up to Rohit to get him safely back home!

The Sumans

Multi-talented Shekhar Suman and son, Raaz 2's Adhyan Suman, were also seen together for 2007's Awake, the remake of the Hollywood movie with the same title. The story is of a man undergoing a heart surgery where the anesthetics fail and leave him paralyzed and alert for the whole of the surgery but unable to tell the doctors. As the surgery proceeds, he discovers some dark secrets!

The Khans

The last but not the least we have the father-son jodi is that of King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and son Aryan Khan.

Aryan featured for a few moments in the big hit Khabhi Khushi Khabhi Gham. The family drama called for a younger version of SRK during the start of the movie and who better to play it than Aryan!

Also, if rumors are to be believed, there have also been recent talks about a movie that will feature the father-son Khan duo once again. SRK has been approached with the offer but hasn't replied yet due to his son's young age. With his son being only 13, SRK wants him to concentrate on his studies before anything else. The storyline of the film is believed to be about living with teenagers and their love life.
