What made you take up the role of a cop which has very negative shades?

To play a cop is exciting for any actor because that uniform has something and the character is fantastic. Also, I haven't played something like this in a really long time. So as a character it was very challenging and it's always nice to play powerful people who can call the shot.

What was so attractive in the role that you signed Drishyam?

When I saw the Malayalam version at that time there was no talk of making it in to a Hindi film. My best friend has produced the Malayalam version, so I know this film since it started even in Malayalam, we used to talk about it. Then this role was so powerful that I told them that why don't you make it in Hindi and if ever you make it in Hindi I want to do the cops role, because I really wanted to do something like this. When you see the film you understand that it has so much power and you want to do a rare character. I also want to be the Singham and Dabanng for a change.

How do you relate yourself to the character?

I really wish I could be like her; so ruthless and so bold at one level to get the job done. It's nice to be like her especially for women.  Being a woman what sort of personality it is, to call for the shots, to get people beaten up, get the truth out of them, put them to task and behind bars. I really admire them.

Did you undertake any special training to prepare for your role?

Fortunately, or unfortunately I did not have to do any action in the film, so I was saved. But, my trainer Pramod was more excited for this, he used to keep telling me 'Madamji police ka uniform pehenna hai come on workout shuru karo'.

Drishyam has been made in different languages so were you ever hesitant on doing this film because there is bound to be comparison.

No, I was very excited to do this film because many sequels and prequels keep happening.

How was it working with child actors?

Both the girls have done a commendable job. The big girl is very charming and pretty, I have told her many times that she has done a great job, she is very good in the film and so is the younger one Mrinal, who as well had a tough part to play. Their situation is very difficult. . I was feeling very bad to ask them those tough questions and also I got too emotional during the shooting of those scenes.

We wish Tabu all the very best for her movie.

Drishyam directed by Nishikant Kamat, stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran in pivotal roles is all set to hit the big screens on July 31, 2015.
