As always, BollyCurry is back with Celeb in the Spotlight. This week, we shine the spotlight upon Abhishek Bachchan!

Born in Mumbai on February 5, 1976, Abhishek is the youngest of two children, his sister being Shweta Bachchan-Nanda. The lad attended Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish, and then enrolled at Modern School Vihar, New Dehli and Aiglon College in Switzerland. He completed his collegiate education at Boston University in the US. Abhi is of a Kayastha heritage from his father's side, Bengali Kulin Brahmin from his mother's side, and Punjabi Sikh from his grandmother's side. Being the son of two prominent actors of the film industry, Abhi didn't have to struggle to make his debut as it was just the family business!

Abhishek started his career with the film Refugee [2000] and then went on to doing films like Kuch Na Kaho and Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai which did not fare too well at the BO. After 17 poorly received films, Abhi eventually found fame with with praiseworthy performances in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon and Yuva [2004]. Along with those films, he also starred in Dhoom, a film which became his very first commercial hit.

2005 proved to be the actor's lucky year. After the release of Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster, AB Junior shot to fame overnight. In fact, Bunty Aur Babli was the highest grossing film of the year and made its hero one of the most sought-after names in the industry.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna [2006] came out next and earned its place in history as it one of India's highest grossing films of the year. His second release that year, Umrao Jaan did not do well at the Box Office, but Dhoom 2 rescued the actor's status proving once again his worth at the BO.

In 2007, Bachchan appeared in his first solo hit, Guru, and then starred in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom which failed to do well in India but was a big hit abroad, especially the UK.
In 2008, he delivered Sarkar Raj, Dostana and Drona which met with substantial commercial success.

And then came the release of Paa, a landmark film that Abhi played "paa" to his own father, Amitabh. The film was a commercial success and earned the lad some praise for his performance. His latest film Raavan, which released in 2010, was a BO flop.

As for his love life:
Having been previously linked with many actresses, on January 14, 2007, Abhi and actress Aishwariya Rai Bachchan announced their engagement. The couple later got married on April 20 of that year. The wedding took place in Juhu at the Bachchan residence, and although the wedding was suppose to be a private affair, the media managed to cover the entire event!

The couple have since appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2009.

Did you know...
    •    He was born as a dyslexic child.
    •    His family's actual last name is Srivastav but when Amitabh entered the industry, he went by his father's pen name.
    •    In 2002, he and actress Karishma Kapoor had announced their engagement at his father Amitabh's 60th birthday. However, the engagement didn't last long and they broke up.
