Tamil lyricist VairamuthuTamil lyricist Vairamuthu won the Ilakkiya Chinthanai award for his Tamil novel "Moonraam Ulaga Por", a book dedicated to Cauvery river delta farmers who committed suicide. He will distribute all the earnings from the book to the families of the dead farmers.

"It gives happiness to receive Ilakkiya Chinthanai award for my novel 'Moonraam Ulaga Por'. An award of merit cannot be given to all the creative works and a creator of merit may not be able accept all the awards. I prefer to accept this award for the reason that this institution is shorn of any prejudices," Vairamuthu said in a statement.

"I am distributing the profit that I earned through the novel among the families of the farmers who had committed suicide. The novel was created after three years of research and ten months of writing," he added.

"Moonraam Ulaga Por" is being translated in English and is expected to be released in different continents soon.

Vairamuthu will be conferred with the award April 1.
