A Flash into the Future (2012 Releases) - Part 1

2011 brought us big and low budget movies, with surprising verdicts at the box office. Films such as Bodyguard, Ready, Ra.One, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Murder 2, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Singham, Tanu Weds Manu, The Dirty Picture and Don 2 set cash registers ringing, breaking records and setting the bar even higher while others fell short of the audience's expectations. Nonetheless, what can we expect from tinsel town in the upcoming year? Well, let us step foot into the enchanted world of Bollywood cinema to see what is in store for 2012!
 
Players
The new year starts with an action thriller, Players, an official remake of American flick The Italian Job (2003). Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Omi Vaidya, Players hits the silver screen on January 6th, 2012. Directed by duo action masters, Abbas Mustan, what's your verdict on this player in the deadly game of Bollywood?

It's My Life is a remake of Bommarillu, a successful Telegu venture. The film has previously been scheduled to release nearly two to three years ago but was severely delayed due to multiple complications. It will finally be hitting the big screen on January 13th, 2012. The film takes its audience through a self-realization journey whereby Rohit (Harman Baweja) gets engaged to Natalie (Genelia D'Souza) as per his strict father's wishes. Decisively, Rohit decides to take a stand for his desires.  After seeing the fate of earlier postponed movies, will It's My Life be able to take a stand? Let us know below!

Make way for the first Bollywood remake of the year, Agneepath. The 1990 super-hit has Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Zarina Wahab and Om Puri taking central roles in this adaptation while Barbie Doll Katrina Kaif makes her first big appearance of the year in item song 'Chikni Chameli'. Produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Agneepath is scheduled to release on India's Republic Day, January 26th, 2012.

Set in the heart of Maharashtra and starring Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin, Shanghai deals with politicians and their greed. Along with audiences, critics too are eagerly awaiting the release of this ambitious venture. Pitted against Agneepath, this political thriller will also be releasing on Republic Day; an exceptional date indeed we must say!


Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor team up for the first time in Dharma Productions' Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. This rom-com is set to release on February 10th, 2012, particularly aiming for Valentine's Day collections. According to rumors, the film mirrors Hollywood venture What Happens in Vegas (2008). However Karan Johar dismissed all rumors stating he would have officially bought the rights if he wanted to do a remake.  Box office hit or box office dud, only time will tell!

Agent Vinod
Within a week, we see Kareena Kapoor's second release for the year, co-starring with beau Pataudi Saif Ali Khan in Agent Vinod. Produced by Illuminati Films and Eros Entertainment, this action thriller showcases the realistic journey of a spy. However, it is not a remake of the 1977 Agent Vinod. Will this thriller prove to be a thriller at the box office? Find out on February 17th, 2012.

Ek Deewana Tha stars Prateik Babbar, Amy Jackson and Omi Vaidya. In this romantic flick, Sachin falls in love with Jessie when he first lays his eyes on her. But the story doesn't end there! The duo must overcome the hurdles of living in the 21st century, contending their religious views and what not.  Does Sachin succeed in winning Jessie and her loved ones? Don't miss this love saga on February 17th, 2012!

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya
The releases for February 17th, 2012 don't end there. The soon to be wed Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza starrer, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, also hits the silver screen on this very day. Viren (Riteish) and Mini (Genelia) are like north and south, the complete opposite. Due to certain circumstances, Viren kidnaps Mini and therein the story takes a turn when Viren starts to realize he is actually falling in love with her! With a much awaited jodi being seen together after seven years, will this movie make it? Let us know your verdict below!

Kahaani
Riding high with the successful The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi star in Kahaani, a suspenseful thriller about a pregnant woman in search for her long lost husband from Kolkata to London. Will Kahaani prove to be another feather in Vidya's cap? Don't forget to catch Vidya's lauding performance on March 9th, 2012.
 
Rock the Shaadi
Balaji Motion Pictures and iRock Films come together for a romantic comedy, starring Abhay Deol and Genelia D' Souza. The film is said to be based on zombies and will see an appearance from Abhay Deol's beau Preeti Desai. Much has not been released about the film, including its release date. However, speculations say that the venture is scheduled to hit theaters sometime in May 2012.

    Fingers crossed for Shanghai to be all that is expected of it and more! Also, going by Vidya Balan's history of different and successful - Kahani sounds like the other look out for movie here ...

    OK i culdn't sleep coz I culdn't rememba da name of da original of ek deewana tha..ya ya pshycho me..lol so ya the movie is , Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, haven't watched this one because I don't like teh actor in it.but did watch ye maaya cheesave...I think sum plots were changed between the two films not sure because haven't watched da tamil version...honestly hate remakess...and Bomarrailu being remade I am like gonna just go *peuk* *peukk*2012-01-02 03:12:24
