My heart became HEAVY after listening to Sandeep's story: Gulzar

Ace writer and lyricist Gulzar who has written the lyrics of the upcoming film Soorma was very emotional when he heard the real-life story of hockey player Sandeep Singh.

Gulzar who has been a part of many Bollywood movies through his writing had a heavy heart when director Shaad Ali told him the story of Sandeep Singh.

On the trailer launch of the film, Gulzar mentioned that not just Sandeep but everyone related to the movie is a Soorma as the story and the hard work went behind the project is not less.

He said, "When Shaad made me hear the story of the first time my heart became heavy after listening to it. I told Shaad that I will listen to your script later but the real story which you told me was very emotional. I feel there is not just one Soorma but everyone whoever has worked on this project is a Soorma."

He further added, "I have worked with Shaad on all his projects and I've learned the changing cinematic language with all his projects and his spontaneity keeps the story alive."

"I would give all the credit of the lyrics to 2 people and they are the Trimurti (Shankar Ehsaan Loy) and Shaad. They come and read the whole script and scene to me and they don't tell me what all needs to be in the song, they just say we told you the sequence please make a song on it. That's when I said ask them to make the tune, I'll put in the lyrics."

Gulzar has penned the lyrics of the song with Shankar Ehsaan Loy's music in the film.

The recently released trailer of 'Soorma' has received an exceptional response from the audience.

Soorma will feature Diljit Dosanjh essaying the role of Sandeep Singh alongside Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in the pivotal roles.

Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, Chitrangda Singh and Deepak Singh, Soorma is written & directed by Shaad Ali and is slated to release on 13th July 2018.
