Shoojit Sircar: Irrfan Khan is RESPONDING WELL to the treatment

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan recently shared on his social media that he has been diagnosed with a rare disease called as NeuroEndocrine Tumor. The actor in his Twitter post also informed his well-wishers that he will be travelling to London for his treatment.

Now, a close friend of Irrfan, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has given a great news. Shoojit in his recent interview to Mumbai Mirror spoke about Irrfan's health.

Shoojit stated, "I've been speaking to both Irrfan and his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), he's responding well to the treatment and trying to cope with the knowledge that he's battling NeuroEndocrine tumour by treating the recuperation in Europe like a short and unexpected holiday. I'm planning to visit him next month. We hope to roll by the year-end but will wait till Irrfan is ready to shoot. He's one of our finest actors and a dear friend".

Irrfan Khan was last seen in Blackmail that released in the month of April this year. The actor couldn't promote this film as during this time around he was diagnosed with this disease and had left the country for his diagnose even before the release of the film. Irrfan was also to start filming for Vishal Bhardwaj's next opposite Deepika Padukone but again due to his health conditions, this untitled film has taken a back seat for now.

Shoojit in the same interview also revealed why he wants to star only Irrfan Khan for his next, Udham Singh. He said, "To relive Udham's journey, I need a performance with finesse and depth which Irrfan is capable of. Also, he's the only international actor we have today and I discovered to my delight that independently he knows a lot about the history of Punjab. It's easy working with an actor who's interested and involved".

Lastly, he also spoke about the crux of his next Udham Singh, "In 1995, during my theatre days in Delhi, I would go with a group to Punjab which was just coming out of a period of turmoil, and sing songs on communal harmony. I visited Amritsar and Jallianwala Bagh then and was greatly inspired by the story of this fiery revolutionary who shot dead Sir Michael O'Dwyer, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India, in London to avenge the massacre of 1919".
