Saroj Khan Faces Wrath Of Celebrities For Her Remarks On Casting Couch

Comments  Comments [ 1 ]    By Kriti Sharma | 25 April 2018 | 8:40pm

Ace choreographer Saroj Khan stirred up a storm when she talked about casting couch in the film industry without applying any filters. Recently Saroj Khan was at a press conference and was asked about her views on the protests of Telegu actress Sri Reddy. The choreographer spontaneously remarked," Government ke log bhi karte hain. Tum film industry ke peeche kyun pade ho? Woh kam se kam roti toh deti hai. Rape karke chhod toh nahi deti. (It happens in the Government as well. The film industry provides them a livelihood and doesn't abandon someone after raping them)"

Saroj got furious with those pointing fingers at the Bollywood industry. She said," "Film industry ko kuch mat kehna, woh humaara mai-baap hai." She seemed oblivious of the fact that in her attempt to respect Bollywood, she was mocking the modesty of a woman.

These remarks coming from such an influential woman have sparked outrage. And the next thing you know, there is a social media storm.  A lot of people from our industry too questioned her remarks, here's looking at a few...

Actress and Singer Sophie Choudry tweeted,"WTH?!!!! So much respect for Saroj-ji as a choreographer but this is how she uses her position to protect girls?!!! If I didn't come from a financially sound background I would have returned to London within a month of being in mumbai cos of "industry folk" who think like that!! Can't begin to think what thousands of girls go through in the hope that their "dreams" will come true! Nobody wants to sleep with someone for work. But they are made to feel it's the only way & "acceptable". And for those who don't, it's a tough road! This has to stop! #TimesUp."

Actress and anchor Mini Mathur also tweeted her reaction to Saroj's comment. She said,"  "WTH!!!?? I see the distinction she is trying to make here but that doesn't justify any kind of exploitation M'am.. this is hugely irresponsible,"

It is only Richa Chadha who came to help Saroj Khan. In an interview given to ANI, She said,"  "I think people are making mountain of a molehill. There's narrative that people in Bollywood are the worst and indulge in malpractices which isn't the case. She meant to say it takes place in all industries, why is Bollywood being singled out?"

Well while Saroj Khan may have retracted her comments, the damage done can't be completely erased.  A lot of commotion has sparked up in the digital world and especially on twitter due to the veteran choreographer's remarks.  How true are they? Well that we leave for you to decide...
