Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal are all out and about with the promotions of their upcoming film Raazi that is helmed by Meghna Gulzar. The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka's novel 'Calling Sehmat', about an Indian spy married to a Pakistani military officer during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

When asked them before shooting for the film did they go through the book, Alia said, "I was given a book (Calling Sehmat) and I did go through it but, I always believed that less is more. The script was my only Bible you can say to refer to because the book is too extensive there are a lot of stories. If you go to make the film just like the novel then 2-3 parts will go on to make the film. So, we had just taken this journey from it, for which I really didn't have to go through the whole book. I just read I did for fun may be as I just felt happy that there's a book on it and I had that book."

Whereas, Vicky said, "I had not read any book as was told not to read. I was told to read the script as the blueprint and we will make the film on that which is based on the book."

A period film is never too easy to shoot. From deep research about the era, location, outfits, characters to the language everything has to be perfect. When we asked Vicky if they felt any difficulty while shooting for the scenes he said, "Talking about the difficulty we faced, was when we were shooting in Bombay where we had created the set for the interiors of the house they way Pakistan had during that era. We were shooting for around 8-9 scenes every day, which is a lot I feel. So, we used to reach the location - get ready - shoot the scene - go back to change (the outfit) and then again used to shoot for another scene and it used to go on. Hats off to Meghna and her DOP (Dev Patel) it was because of their tremendous planning. Because when you have to shoot too many things, you only shoot what is required for the film."

He further added, "You don't have the luxury to shoot all the things and then decide during while on editing the film (Post-production) that cannot happen. Due to their planning, we could do so many things. It was a lot to take for the entire unit but, we felt really happy that in 14-15 days we had completed almost 50% of the film."
