Meghna Gulzar has some beautiful things to say about Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt will be seen portraying the role of Sehmat in the film. The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka's novel 'Calling Sehmat' which is about an Indian spy married to a Pakistani military officer during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

The makers released the trailer of the film last week and there's no doubt about the performance by the actress. Well, it is not for the first time that the actress has surprised with her acting skills but, with each performance and choice of her films she has raised the bar that one expects such kind of a performance from her.

Talking about the same with a leading daily director of the film Meghna Gulzar reveals that she wouldn't have made the film if Alia wouldn't have come on board. She said, "Even before Bhavani Iyer (who wrote the screenplay with Meghna) and I had put a word on paper, I knew that a performance was needed to take Sehmat's journey forward on screen. Also, the way I see her, she doesn't suddenly turn into this indestructible superhero on a mission. There's a vulnerability inherent in her character which she retains till the end and I've noticed that no matter how hard-hitting the characters she plays, there is a certain softness to Alia, physically and emotionally, that I was looking for."

On being quizzed if Alia was stuck with any scene, Meghna stated, "None. Once she connected with the character, she was consumed by her. Alia worked really hard on her prep she took language sessions, learnt the Morse code and other training. By the time we sat for the readings, she knew all her lines and was even asking what I meant by underlined script cues like 'gives a knowing look', wanting me to explain what I meant by the 'knowing look'."

Well, we can't wait for this film to hit the screens!

Starring Vicky Kaushal too in the lead role the film is all set to release on May 11, 2018.
