Want to increase my bandwidth as an actor: Rajeev Khandelwal

Girls swooned over his character Sujal Garewal in "Kahiin to Hoga", critics lauded his intense performance in "Aamir" and the audience loved him in "Shaitan". Rajeev Khandelwal, who is now trying his luck in the digital medium, says he wants to increase his range as an actor.

"As an actor, I want to increase my bandwidth. I want to increase my range. So, I want to do anything and everything that comes my way which is different. I do not want to get into any comfort zone. I have not got into any comfort zone till date and I do not want to limit myself," Khandelwal said in a recorded response to a question by IANS.

"Even if I fail, I would not mind it because I just want to make an attempt and try it. But there is nothing in particular I want to be a part of... I want to be a part of every genre," said the 42-year-old actor.

Khandelwal made his debut on the silver screen in 2008 with "Aamir". Since then, he has worked in films like "Soundtrack", "Table No. 21" and "Fever", which didn't generate the response that his television stint with "Kahiin Toh Hoga" and "Left Right Left" did.

Asked if choosing scripts of different genres is a deliberate attempt, Khandelwal said: "The kind of films I did or I am doing right now are not a deliberate attempt or choice. After I was a part of 'Aamir', I had a very different awakening of some sorts.

"Till the time I read the script of 'Aamir', I did not know somebody could write something like this and how limiting it can get when you think about film is all about singing, dancing, looking good and romance."

Khandelwal said he gives a nod to scripts that excite him.

"Unfortunately, the romantic scripts that have been offered to me or the regular mainstream scripts that have been offered to me have not excited me enough, and that is why I have not been a part of them till now. (But) you never know," he added.

The actor is now busy with Alt Balaji's upcoming digital show "Haq Se", which also features actress Surveen Chawla. And he considers himself fortunate for the chance to work in films, TV and digital series.

"I have been quite adventurous in my career. It is not the medium which is challenging; it is the project which is challenging. So, for me to define which medium is more challenging would not be possible because I find projects very challenging," he said.

The actor says he found "Haq Se" challenging "because it was very demanding". But he finds the small screen more challenging physically.

"If I were to say which is more challenging physically, I would say television is a little more challenging because there are deadlines, telecast pressures and it also depends on the feedback of the audience. So TV would be more tiring physically as a medium," he added.
