New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS) Russian film "Anna Karenina", adapted from Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name, will hit the screens in India on December 8.

The film, to be released in English and Hindi, is being brought to India by RG Studios.

Produced and directed by Oscar-nominated director Karen Shakhnazarov, "Anna Karenina" is a tragic story of Countess Anna Karenina, a married noblewoman and socialite and her affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.

Shakhnazarov said: "I have wanted to make a film about love for a long time and what could be more interesting than filming 'Anna Karenina'? The way I see it, nothing better has ever been written, or will ever be written, about relationships between men and women."

On releasing the film in India, Ravi Goswami, Executive Producer, RG Studios, said: "'Anna Karenina' is special for us and we are so excited to release it pan India. The grandeur that director Karen has projected in the film is no less than that of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films.

"The films we are distributing in Russia are doing well and they love Bollywood. I am sure Indians will also welcome their friends from other side of the globe."
