While the news of Padmavati getting postponed due to various controversies surrounding the film broke out, we wonder when will this magnum opus period drama film see the light of the day.
Actor Shahid Kapoor who essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh in Padmavati was one of the dignitaries at the opening ceremony of Indian Film Festival of India (IFFI) Goa 2017. At the red carpet, it was but obvious the media would ask Shahid about his views on the status of Padmavati.
Speaking on the issue, Shahid expressed, "I don't think there is anything in the film that is unacceptable or that is not in good taste. Eventually, Padmavati will come out and in full force. This is not the time to be angry, I am optimistic about the film's release".
Further talking about the issue of Rajput Karni Sena's oppositions against the film, Kapoor said, "Our constitution says that you are innocent until proven guilty. Same should be extended to Padmavati. It should not be considered guilty even before it is provided for people to judge it".
Yesterday, Viacom 18's spokesperson released an official statement stating, "The film, mired in controversy over conjectures that it "distorts history" regarding Rajput queen Padmavati. Thus it will not release on its scheduled date on December 1. A new release date will be announced once the "requisite clearances" are in place".
The chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) - Prasoon Joshi who was also present at the event shed his views on the entire issue. Speaking with disappointment, Prasoon said, "Vivaad ki jagah vichaar-vimarsh ki aavshyakta hai (Instead of indulging in controversies, it's time to have a conversation and clear all doubts)".
We wonder what lies in the fate of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati. Tell us what do you guys think of Shahid and Prasoon's opinions?
