Delhi Fashion Week's participants list out, few names missing

New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) The list of designers participating in the upcoming Delhi Fashion Week (DFW) was announced here Wednesday. While it was an eclectic mix of established and new names in the industry, some prominent names were missing.

People who chose not to showcase at the fashion week March 19-24 include Anamika Khanna and Raghavendra Rathore, while designers Rajavi Mohan, Gaurav Gupta and Varun Sardana have moved to the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) to be held March 18-23.

But the list had the names of Ekta Singh, Khushali Kumar, Surabhi Chawla, Sandeep and Gaurav, who will be participating in DFW for the first time.

DFW head Sumeet Nair said it was upto the designers to decide where they wanted to showcase their collections.

'The biggest challenge that we face is to constantly compete with our own past and produce something better. The last edition of DFW won accolades for sheer selection of talent and presentation. We have to keep our commitment to present only the best,' Nair said in a statement here.

'We have once again has selected the most creative designers to showcase their autumn/winter collection. The focus is once again to make the event buyer and media centric so that there is free flow of information that facilitates long-term business relationships,' he added.

This time too DFW has an interesting mix of designers - established names like Meera and Muzaffar Ali, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Malini Ramani providing a guiding factor to the young and creative lot like Alpana and Neeraj, Vineet Behl and many more.

The other participants include Abhijeet Khanna, Atsu Sekhose, Preeti Chandra, Rahul Reddy, Gunit Kaur, Amber Firoze and Savio Jon.

The event will also provide a platform to accessory designers like Alecca Carrano, Amrita Hans, Meera Mahadevia, Nivedita Swarup, Yasmine Rana and Vanilla Moon.

Talking about his association with DFW, designer Rohit Bal said: 'The reason that I'm showing here is because I find DFW extremely progressive and the production quality of the event is comparable to any international fashion week.'

'There is little room for any internal disputes since it is a collection of like-minded creative designers with the sole purpose of putting together a great event and move forward and concentrate on the business of fashion,' he added.
