Deepika Padukone faces depression from Padmavati incident

The story is about Rani Padmavati. Apparently, it is believed that Maharani Padmini performed Jauhar in the year 1303, right when Alauddin Khilji attacked Chittor.

"Jauhar" was an act of self-immolation, where mainly women from Rajput dynasty killed themselves to protect their chastity from the victor.

Deepika who portrays the role of Maharani Padmini was preparing herself intensely for the role and amidst the process got disturbed by one of the scenes.

A source confirmed the same to an agency, "It is not easy to play a character who has to commit suicide, or Johar, as it is called. And when one is working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he wants one to feel committed and feel the character all the time. Sanjay takes his time to shoot every sequence. The build-up to the Johar scene and the scene itself was rather elaborate. Deepika has already spoken about clinical depression earlier in her career. Hence, she does not want to do anything that will take her back to that space".

The incident brought back memories of depression and Deepika felt deeply disturbed because of the scene. Like Deepika, Ranveer too was preparing hard for his role of Alauddin Khilji and faced similar mental trauma. The actor is currently consulting a psychiatrist to get rid of his character and his influences.
