Nawazuddin Siddiqui wants Award functions to SHUT DOWN!

Recently, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had expressed his disappointment towards the award functions in Bollywood for neglecting late veteran actor Om Puri's contribution to the Hindi cinema. The actor was saddened by the fact that the award ceremonies held in India had failed to even recognize the ace actor after his demise.

But, on the other hand, the International film industry had paid tribute to Om Puri at their recently held Oscars. Everyone was surprised and touched by this kind gesture by the team of Academy awards.

Nawaz had tweeted about the same stating:

In a recent interview with a leading publication, the 'Wasseypur' actor shared his heart out on the issue.

He says, "After Om Ji's death, whichever award function happened, his name was not even mentioned. As an actor, you feel bad because he was a legend, who made a huge contribution to not only India but also to world cinema. As they say 'two words' could have been spoken about him as a tribute". (sic)

Nawaz clearly stated that, if this kind of scenario keeps prevailing then the award ceremonies should be completely shut down. He says, "I want to clarify that my emphasis is only on popular award functions and not the country or the film industry. They (popular award shows) have become very shallow. Sometimes, I feel that they should shut down.

If these award functions continue to have such an attitude, it will become shameful for good actors to attend them, because there's no seriousness attached to them. If they were serious award functions or maintained a certain gravitas about art, especially cinema, they would have paid tribute to Omji." (sic)

We must say, Nawaz does make a lot of sense in whatever he has said. An actor like Om Puri, has contributed a big share in the Indian film industry and also represented us at the Global level. He deserves respect from all corners.

However, it was sad to see that the actor was ignored by his own home industry.
