In an interview to a popular magazine, the 'Dilwale' actor went nostalgic reminiscing his first experience of failure from his school days. Shah Rukh who did his schooling from St. Columbia (Delhi) had once participated in the 100-meter race with boys elder to him and he stood on the 5th position among 6 or 7 boys. Talking about the incident he said, "As soon as the race was over, the school official rushed to the winners and whisked them off to the podium. There were people around, but no one came to me. It was the emptiest feeling ever." (sic)

Shah Rukh also differentiated between success and failure. According to him, "Failure is something you face alone. Success has a lot of masters, friends and well-wishers. But failure is lonely. Still, it's just as textured as success." (sic)

Sharing his feelings further, he says, "Failure feels like crap. But it's also inevitable." (sic)

Shah Rukh also expressed his feelings and situation after he lost his parents. His father left for the heavenly abode when he was a teenager and his mother passed away when he was 25. He also says that it was traumatic for him to lose his parents at an early age. But "you have to grow up fast", he said.

That was the reason he couldn't play with toys in his childhood days. As such, "I play with my children's toys now. People find it odd and think perhaps I'm just a good father. But that's not true. I'm just a father who didn't have toys". (sic)
