Ahmedabad, Oct 25 (IANS) A Vadodara court has restrained Percept Picture Company from releasing its movie 'Return of Hanuman' as it allegedly uses a caricature of the Hindu god used in 'Bal Hanuman', another animation film made by Shree Karma Productions.

The court Friday held that Percept Picture by themselves, their directors, servants, agents and distributors/exhibitors will not infringe Shree Karma Productions' copyright for 'Bal Hanuman' by reproducing any part of it in 'Hanuman Returns' or 'Return Of Hanuman' till the final disposal of the suit.

It stayed its order till Nov 3 for Percept to appeal.

With this, Percept Picture is not allowed to show 'Return Of Hanuman' in theatres or on TV Channels and it cannot release CDs and DVDs of the film.

Shree Karma Productions director Rajkumar A. Hasija said: 'We had to knock on the doors of the courts to obtain justice. Justice has finally been done. We have full faith in the judiciary and we shall fight all the way to defend this order.'

Though Percept Picture has been served a notice about the copyright ownership, it went ahead with impunity and released the film 'Return Of Hanuman', Hasija told IANS Saturday.

Rohit Majumdar, who argued the case for Shree Karma Productions, said: 'Percept after copying the 'Bal Hanuman' caricature had used it in its film 'Return of Hanuman'. It is also planning to make a movie 'Hanuman goes to Manhattan' and the court has stopped it.

'Percept also wants to use the Hanuman caricature on school bags and water bottles,' said Majumdar.

'We have also filed a caveat in the Gujarat High Court to resist any move to stay the Vadodara court order,' he said.
