New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Emerging as a strong player in the direct-to-home (DTH) arena, Big TV Monday said it has touched the 500,000 subscriber mark within two months of the launch of its services and expects to add 400,000 subscribers every month.

'Crossing the 500,000 customer milestone within two months is indeed a testimony to the superior value proposition offered by BIG TV and its success in accelerating the growth momentum of DTH sector in India,' Big TV president Arun K. Kapoor said.

'Our plans of defining the future of television viewing in India are on desired course, and we are fully geared to add over 400,000 subscribers every month with an on-ground infrastructure spanning 6,500 Indian towns,' he added.

On an average, the entire DTH market in India adds about 350,000 subscribers every month.

'Big TV's half-million subscriber milestone is equivalent to 40 percent of the industry's gross additions during the last two months. This is a true leadership statement from Big TV DTH,' said Kapoor.

Big TV, the DTH arm of Reliance Communications, is targeting five million subscribers within first year of operations.

It plans to double its channel bouquet to 400 by next year.
