The Indian Cinema lost its 'Showman', Raj Kapoor, on June 2, 1988. He was winner of two National Film Awards, Nine Filmfare Awards; The Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan in 1971 and DadaSaheb Phalke Award in 1987.

Raj Kapoor's big break was the film 'Neelkamal' opposite Madhubala in her first role as leading lady. At the age of twenty four he established his own production house 'R.K Films'. He went on creating epic movies, entertaining the masses not only in India but also in foreign countries. 'Mera Naam Joker' was considered as disaster when it was released. The film took six years to complete which was directed by Raj Kapoor and also starred in it. The film put the Kapoors in a financial crisis but years later the same film became the 'Indian Classic Movie'.

Songs like 'Mera Joota Hai Japani', 'Jeena Yaha Marna Yaha', 'Mera naam Raju', 'Sajan re Jhoot Mat Bolo' and so on are on our playlists. A hat, a coat, shirt and pants which are up to the ankles came to known as 'Raj Kapoor Style'.  The title

Showman is best suited for him. The elegant look, the lovable expressions, the acting skills, everything about him was perfect.

The legend of Indian cinema collapsed at event when he was to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. After struggling for a month he succumbed to complications arising from asthma.

The reach of this great personality is far that on 24th June, 2011, in a warm gesture of welcome to Indian Cinema, the City of Brampton in Ontario, Canada, named a street after the ultimate Showman - Raj Kapoor. Introducing a new street into the infrastructure of the city, when constructed it will be named, the 'Raj Kapoor Crescent'.

Rishi Kapoor shared his feelings on the death anniversary of his father and tweeted "Will miss you always!" with a picture of Raj Kapoor from the film Mera naam Joker and on that the quote was written

"Kal khel me hum ho na ho, Gardish me tare rahenge sada... Bhulenge hum , Bhulenge vo, par hum tumhare rahenge sada!"

and which is true!

He taught us that 'Jeena yaha marna yaha, iske siwa jana kahaan!' But 'Jeena Isikaa naaam hai!'
