Thiruvananthapuram, July 24 (IANS) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Thursday warned that the government will take stern action against reality shows which put the participants under unnecessary duress.

'We are aware of the fact that children and others who take part in these reality shows are tormented and we will take action against those who do this,' said Balakrishnan to questions raised in the assembly.

He added that the existing Cable TV Networks Regulation Act, 1995, does not have adequate rules for the welfare of the participants.

'Even though the rules are not strong, if we receive any complaints, we will certainly take action against the violators,' added Balakrishnan.

Of late, several Malayalam TV channels run reality shows and the manner in which these shows rake up passion has been widely condemned.
