Mumbai, May 13 (IANS) Yesteryear's Bollywood actor Navin Nischol and his brother were acquitted of charges of abetment of suicide of his wife Gitanjali.

While pronouncing the judgement Tuesday, additional sessions court judge B.B. Kamkhedkar said Navin and his brother Pravin have been acquitted due to lack of evidence and failure to prove the charges.

Gitanjali committed suicide by hanging herself April last year. In a suicide note, she had written that she was depressed and the two brothers used to harass her. She also mentioned that she was fed up of the actor's drinking habit.

The brothers were arrested April 28 last year under sections 498 A (cruelty) and 306 (abetting suicide) and later released on bail.
