Mumbai, March 25 (IANS) Filmmaker Yash Chopra Tuesday said the ban on movies by some states is a worrying factor and the government must ensure that screenings do not stop once films pass the Censor Board.
'After the Censor Board clears a movie, no one has the right to ban it,' Chopra told a global convention here on entertainment and media industry hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci).
The veteran filmmaker, who chairs the entertainment committee of the Ficci, was specifically referring to 'Jodhaa Akbar' directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, which faced some initial action against screening by some state governments.
'It is the government which has formed the Censor Board. If the state machinery bans movies in certain areas, then what was the use of having a Censor Board,' queried the filmmaker at the Ficci-Frames forum.
He said the release of Indian movies like 'Welcome' and 'Taare Zameen Par' in Pakistan was the right step forward.
He appealed to the Pakistan government to allow screening of more Indian movies on its soil to forge better ties between the two countries.
