Chennai, March 5 (IANS) The Madras High Court Wednesday posted for hearing Thursday a case involving the 'solvency' of actor turned politician Jayaprada over non-payment of tax to the city corporation.

Justice V. Ramasubramanaian, before whom the appeal of the Samajwadi Party leader is pending, told Jayaprada's lawyers to return to him after 'you have paid half the amount due to the Chennai Corporation in taxes, and half the amount due to another creditor'.

Jayaprada and her brothers were declared 'insolvent' by the high court on the complaint of the creditor. This has raised questions about her status as an MP.

A high court's official assignee Monday told the corporation that Jayaprada and her brothers - Rajbabu and Sriram Kumar - joint owners of two city theatres, had been declared 'insolvent' by the high court Sep 18, 2006 and that the corporation would have to recover its taxes from the high court.

With Jayaprada's status as an MP becoming an issue, Jayaprada's brother rushed to file a writ petition before the high court Tuesday, seeking to set aside the insolvency order.
