filmmaker Paul CoxAustralian filmmaker Paul Cox feels the craze for Hollywood is the worst thing which is affecting cinema. He says filmmakers should have control over their films.

While speaking at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), Cox said although cinema is a wonderful medium of communication, it is also one of the most misused mediums. He advised every filmmaker to have total control over their films and said the producer is only a supporting factor.

Cox, who is also on the jury panel of the festival, revealed that his struggle with cancer prompted him to make films having humanistic values. He pointed to the need for proper education and health as it is everyone's right.

"I am always interested in making films on the underprivileged and people, who perish in this horrific underprivileged society," said Cox, known for movies like "Lonely Hearts" (1982), "Man of Flowers" (1983) and "Innocence" (2000).

IIFK kicked off Dec 7 and will go on till Dec 14.
