Nandita to direct play

After making short films and a movie, actress Nandita Das is now directing a play that focuses on inequalities in the society.

"At the moment I am working on a play, in which I am going to act, direct as well as write. I am very nervous. It's a conventional couple's story in an urban setup. It's about the inequalities which exist," Nandita told IANS.

The actress has been active on stage and featured in plays such as "Heads Ya Tails" and "Moteram Ka Satyagrah".

She directed National Award winning feature film "Firaaq".

Veena Malik needs multi-tasking partner

Pakistani model-turned-actress Veena Malik calls herself a freak and says she needs a partner to take care of her daily chores.

"I am such a freak that I need a partner to remove my make up, to feed me, to help me wear my shoes. Even I need a partner to wake me up in the morning," Veena told IANS.

Veena says that the Zahida in her is upset that reality show "Veena Ka Swayamvar" didnt happne and added: "Veena is very happy because 'Veena Ka Vivaah' did not happen, but Zahida is very upset because she always wanted to get married.

"I have been in a relationship ever since I was 14 years old. The only six months I was not in a relationship was when I was doing - 'Veena Ka Vivaah'."

Mainstream stars will do off-beat films soon: Onir

filmmaker onirFilmmaker Onir is confident that gradually mainstream actors will open up to off-beat cinema too.

"Films like 'Gangs of Wasseypur', and 'Shanghai' have become famous. It is not comedy, but serious cinema which portrays our society," Onir told IANS, adding such films highlight "serious issues" and "have been accepted".

"'Gangs of Wasseypur' did not have big Bollywood stars but slowly it did open up. It's great that people are accepting these films and slowly stars will open up to the non-mainstream cinema too," he added.

Onir has made serious issue-based cinema - "My Brother...Nikhil" and "I Am",

Asked if ever he felt hesitant about bringing up issues of homosexuality and AIDS in the limelight, the answer was, "No".

"I have never been hesitant about the stories I wanted to tell. I think this is important and this is what pushes you. It's all around us. It's not that people don't know," he added.
