A 70-year-old woman was killed when she was knocked down by a Land Cruiser owned by Bollywood actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan, police here said Monday. The Khan family says that they would not pay any compensation to the victim's family as she was disowned by them.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday near St. Andrew's Church when the vehicle was headed towards the home of the Khans at Bandstand.
The woman has been identified as Chandra Bala, police said. She was rushed to the Bhabha Hospital by a police constable and some autorickshaw drivers in the vicinity but died from her injuries.
The car was being driven by Dhananjay Pimpale. A top police official supervising the investigation said Pimpale came and reported the accident case to the police station shortly afterwards.
"We have recorded his statement and also the statements of two eyewitnesses who were present at the scene of the accident. We shall record the statements of the vehicle owner (Arbaaz Khan) and Sohail Khan (who has been using the vehicle)," the official told media-persons.
He confirmed that nobody else was present in the vehicle and also the fact that Pimpale was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.
"However, we shall send his blood samples for analysis to further confirm this," the official added.
Pimpale was later presented before a magistrate here Monday afternoon.
After a brief hearing, Pimpale was remanded in police custody till July 9, but soon afterwards, he applied for and secured a bail on an amount of Rs.10,000, his lawyer Zameer Khan told media persons.
Arbaaz's father, Salim Khan called it an "unfortunate" incident and told IANS: "The woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police."
He claimed that the woman, apparently frail, was not "crushed" as claimed in some quarters, but fell near the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan - brother of Arbaaz - said that they won't pay any compensation, but would attend her cremation.
"We are not paying any compensation to the family members of the victim as we got to know that her family had disowned her," he told media outside his residence Galaxy Apartment in Bandra.
"She was sleeping on the streets that shows that her family had disowned her. Now those who will come to claim her body, they won't necessarily be her family members. But I hope they come to claim her body."
"When we'll come to know that her body has been handed over for cremation, we'll make sure that we three brothers and our father are there," added the star.

Why are people even blaming salman khan and his family...they didn't do anything wrong...Salman khan is the best ok...
This time I would say the issue is being blown out of proportion just because the driver has his name linked with the Khans. I myself have witnessed so many accidents in India in a short span of 3 weeks and its all thanx to the fact nor the drivers nor the pedestrians have any sense of what road rules are all about!!!! I know I sound harsh but guess what its the bitter truth!!!!
Iam glad Salman and his family have decided not to give compensation cos such sick ppl dont deserve it.
I appreciate Salman's decision. I wonder how some people can kick their mother out, that too when she's 70! Disgusting!
Since the driver was in the car then, it's not fair to blame Salman and family. Please edit the title soon.
Lo jee...they even got a Driver like themselves. The owners don't care about rules and regulations...Driver keya khaas karegi. If Khans didn't done anything I think they should have decency to obey the law and not bail their Driver or try to clear his name for a crime. OK the woman was the main criminal here. But if the car had maintained its speed level ,it'd be an injury not death.
A few things on this news.
1) rest in peace to the lady who passed.
2) the lady was disowned i feel absolutly sorry because the family had to have been money hungry idiots that kiked their poor 70 year old mother outta the house so shame on that family and wish they rot in hell.
3) if this was arbaazs drivers fault then why the heck is it being publicized for no reason! Inhate the freakin indian media ( not u bc guys lol cause i knw u all are just reporting news) but why is the khan family eing pulle into this and all this being blown outta proportion? Its the drivers problem end of story.
4) i know this rude and not right to say so i apologize before hand but i feel this is a point. If indians learned how to control themselves a little and learned about abstinence hell protection, over popluation might not be an issue and thus most likely poverty and poor people sleeping kn streets would be decreased most likely lowering chances of people being struck by cars like its a video game!
Hell the traffic regulations in india itself is disgusting forget people roaming aimlessly animals are wandring like its a flippin zoo! An when people unfortunatly get struck media publicizes and makes mountains outta molehills.
I know the lady died and im srry it happened but seriously! India needs to get things together.

Okay I get that you guys don't like the Khan family, fair enough, to each their own, but why are you being unnecessarily harsh to them when it was someone else who ran over the poor women. It wasn't Arbaaz, it wasn't Sohail and it wasn't Salman, it was someone else. unfortunately it was their car but someone else was driving it, they weren't even in it at that time, so don't blame them!
Also if it's true that the women's family disowned her then Salman made the right choice, they shouldn't be paid shit. It's so disgusting how people could throw out their own mother, grandmother from their house ... people like that make me sick!
Article to theek se paro. Ya Google translate use Karo kafi madad mil jaye ghi.
I don't really like Salman much anymore, but I do respect the decision to not give any money to the victim's family. If they disowned and left an elderly woman all by herself then they do not deserve any compensation from the Khan family.
