6th South Asian Film Festival to begin Sep 15

Mumbai, Sep 3 (IANS) The 6th South Asian Film Festival (SAFF), organised by the South Asia Foundation (SAF), is all to set begin Sep 15 in Goa with the theme of 'Dissolving Boundaries' to propagate the message of peace and harmony among the countries in the region.

To be inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, the four-day festival will screen more than 50 films from all the South Asian countries, with a blend of different genres like classic films, short films, documentary films and mainstream popular films.

?South Asia Foundation is weaving nations and bringing South Asian countries together. This year we have received an overwhelming response not only from the local people but also from the governments of the member South Asian countries. We are certain to see tremendous participation this year as well,? SAF secretary general Rahul Barua said in a statement.

Two films will also be premiered at the festival - Bhojpuri film ?Deswa? directed by Indian director Nitin Chandra and the Indian premiere of Bangladeshi film ?Meherjaan? directed by Bangladesh-born Rubaiyat Hossain.

The festival will also showcase the cinematic journey of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and pay tribute to two stalwarts of cinema -- late legendary actor Shammi Kapoor and Bangladeshi film-maker Tareque Masud, who passed away recently in a tragic road accident.
