Chandigarh, Oct 2 (IANS) The Haryana government proposes to set up a film promotion board to promote films on Haryanvi culture, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here Saturday.

Hooda made the announcement after a meeting with Bollywood film director and actor Satish Kaushik.

Talking to reporters here, Kaushik said the Haryana government was setting up a film and TV institute in Rohtak and he would provide all assistance for the project.

Expressing his concern over the present status of Haryanvi films, compared to films of other regional languages like Bhojpuri, Tamil and Punjabi, he said there was an immediate need to set up a film promotion body in Haryana.

Kaushik said he himself would make at least five Haryanvi films in the next two years and his first Haryanvi film could be expected in a year. He said that he would also motivate others to make films in Haryanvi language and culture.

He said that Haryanvi film 'Chandrawal' had proved a big success and now he had come to know that its second part was being planned.

The director said that Haryanavi culture has already made a mark in TV channels and some actors who can perform good Haryanvi roles were available.

He also expressed his concern over the poor state of cinema halls in Haryana.
