No threat from our side, Chiranjeevi assures daughter

New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS) Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi Monday informed the Delhi High Court that there was no threat from him or his family members to his newly-wed daughter and son-in-law who are in the capital under police protection.

Advocate Maninder Singh informed the court that he received an email from Chiranjeevi saying his second daughter Srija and her husband Sirish Bhardwaj had nothing to fear from him or his family members.

He produced a copy of the email before S.N. Dhingra as proof. Srija and Sirish got married Oct 17 against the wishes of their parents at an Arya Samaj Mandir in Secunderabad.

The judge extended the period of police protection to the couple for another two weeks and adjourned the matter.

In the petition, filed by advocate Pinky Anand Oct 19, Srija had said she apprehended a repeat of the Rizwanur Rahman case and had fled from her home in Andhra Pradesh with her husband.

'My life and liberty are in immediate danger,' she said.

The petition, which did not mention the couple's local address, said there 'was no hope in getting justice in Andhra Pradesh, so the couple approached the court for justice'. The couple, however, did not specify the source of threat.

Chiranjeevi was not made a respondent to the petition.

Following a talk with the couple in the packed courtroom, Justice Dhingra had directed Delhi Police to provide them security after they formally applied for it.

Graphics designer Rizwanur Rahman, a Muslim, had married the daughter of Kolkata-based industrialist Ashok Todi against his wishes. He was found dead Sep 21 near a railway track in Kolkata. The death led to an uproar, and the Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the case.
