Padmaavat Movie Review: A beautiful tribute to the VALOUR of Rajputs

After a huge hue and cry and innumerable controversies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, "Padmaavat" is here! And trust me this long wait has been worth it.

But, all the hullabaloo that was created by various religious groups was completely unnecessary. As the film has done nothing but glorified to a great extent the Rajput legacy and the valour of the warrior community!

A glimpse of the film:

When we talk about a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, the first thing that crosses our mind is, the huge and colorful sets, and that's what "Padmaavat" is all about! A "Perfect Visual Treat".

After a long time, a colorful film with an average entertainment quotient, a simple tale of love, has come up and trust me, after watching a number of dull movies in 2017, this periodic drama has surely come as a relief giving a great start to out 2018 movie calendar!

After reading this, your curiosity level to know about "How the three lead actors performed?", must have gone high. So without wasting much time, let's see what our three musketeers have to offer us in the film!

About the characters:

Sultan Alauddin Khilji played by Ranveer Singh:

Ranveer Singh who is seen playing Sultan Alauddin Khilji has overpowered everyone. With such perfection, he has justified the wickedness of his character. When he introduced his character to the world he labeled him as a "Monster" and trust me he truly is one in the film.

When RS was shooting for Bajirao Mastani, he had revealed that he tries his best to get into the skin of his character and this time again he has succeeded in doing so.

Out of all the 3, it is his entry that captivated your senses. He has been successful in developing the feeling of hatred for his character in the minds of the audiences'.

Trust me, you will leave the theaters hating him and at the same time feeling pity for him, that well he will settle down in your hearts!

Maharani Padmavati played by Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone has flawlessly lived up to her character of Rani Padmavati. Her grace, her elegance, her intelligence, her beauty, has been just out of the world.

Her eyes speak a thousand unsaid words and with every movie and each passing year, Dippy has only flourished in terms of her performance.

Maharawal Ratan Singh played by Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor who is Maharawal Ratan Singh in the film has come as a surprise package. He has proved that, when it comes to transforming himself completely, he can nail it.

The courage of a Rajput King, the fierceness in his voice and the command over the language, Shahid has nailed it all.

Though there are few portions, where Ranveer overpowers him but then let's not forget this is Shahid's 1st periodic drama whereas it is Ranveer's 2nd outing!

Above all, this time, with all due respect, Shahid deserves a round of applause after his kick-ass performance.

What we liked/ disliked:

SLB did a great job when he decided to convert the film in 3D because, without it, the film wouldn't have been what it is right now.

The breathtaking visuals have been brought to life only because of the 3D effects. Though initially, they are a bit distracting, but over a period of time, with the mesmerizing camerawork, the viewing experience is smoothened.

As always, SLB's music and background score is the icing on the cake. Deepika's "Ghoomar," is so colorfully choreographed that you won't feel like blinking your eyes even once. Then it is Ranveer's power-packed performance in "Khali bali ho gaya hai dila", that executes his power and wickedness at it's best.

Fiery Dialogues are the USP of the film. Some of the best ones that we liked are:

Shahid Kapoor's: "Chinta ko Talwaar ki nok pe rakhe... Woh Rajput!

Ret ki naav leke samandar se sart lagaye.. Woh Rajput!

Jiska sar kate.. Phir bhi dhad dushman se ladtaa rahe... Woh Rajput!

Deepika Padukone's: "Rajputi Kangan mein utni hi taqat hai jitni Rajputi Talwaar mein!

Ranveer Singh's: Ab tak woh mitti hi nahi bani jo Allaudin ko dafan kar sake

But, then there are few scenes like, Maharani Padmavati, who is living in the 13th Century has colored and highlighted hairs, like seriously it existed in that era? And there are a few more tidbits here and there.

There are few sequences which haven't been built up rather SLB has directly jumped instead of building the plot.

P.S: The film, being a period drama is too lengthy and slow!

Overall:

The whole film rests on the shoulders of visuals, visuals, and visuals and that's what makes it a must watch this weekend.

So, grab a huge tub of popcorn (I know it will be very expensive, but then you need it as a distraction to sit patiently throughout the first half) as the film walks at a snail's pace or let's just say has been abruptly edited to make it short.
