TE3N Movie Review

Ribhu Dasgupta's "TE3N" grips us from the first frame itself. It is a thriller with a heart, soul and most exceptionally, a conscience. But, the film is extremely slow and the only reason that it will sustain is the powerful performance executed by the complete cast!

A glimpse of the story:

"TE3N"- the title refers to the three protagonists of this jigsaw of crime and retribution--- Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vidya Balan. The story revolves around these three characters who are trying to find a kidnapper who is speculated to have done two kidnappings in a gap of eight years. He first kidnapped John Biswas's (Amitabh Bachchan) granddaughter Angela. Then eight years later a similar case of kidnapping unfolds and this forms the crux of the story. How they solve both the cases is what the story all about!

About the character:

How can one judge Amitabh Bachchan in terms of acting, because the megastar is so flawless in his work that you get no point to remove his mistakes! Every emotion expressed by him makes you feel the pain his character is going through. His acting pinches your heart and leaves a mark.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one such gem that the Hindi film industry is blessed with! He has time and again proven to the world that his acting speaks louder than his words. He has been cast as a cop who 'converts' himself to priesthood after a guilt-ridden incident. He is uncharacteristically quiet, contemplative and calm in his performance.

Vidya Balan too is seen playing a cop, an impatient cop who knows it well that this is no country for outbursts! While dealing with two child kidnappings, she substitutes exhibition of growing exaggerated emotions with a tightly-wound anxiety that is mirrored in her troubled eyes. Vidya's is a performance far more accomplished than it seems.

High points of the film:

Amitabh Bachchan doing subtle action scenes is something that is not expected of him at this age but still he has pulled them off well.

Jagged and unexpected turns in the second half wake you up from the sleep.

Vidya Balan and Nawazuddin's subtle love that keeps blooming at frequent intervals adds a bit of freshness in the slow paced scenes.

Commendable performance by all the characters is one of the main reasons to watch this film.

Brilliant background scores adds the flavours of Kolkatta.

Minor Disappointments:

Unnecessarily the scenes are exaggerated. The editor failed to do a crisp editing resulting in lengthy scenes. Instead of focusing on glorifying one character if the debutant director Ribhu Dasgputa would have worked on the other aspects like building a good screenplay it would have given him fruitful results.

Overall:

The first half is extremely slow and might as well put you to sleep. The director has taken a lot of time to build the plot following which the pace of the film drops down resulting in irritating the audience who is waiting for the events to unfold. However, the story is exceptionally intriguing which holds the attention of the viewers. With the advent of second half the story catches a bit of speed and the mystery starts to unfold. Slowly but very interestingly the cards unfold and the climax brings a happy and satisfied end!

So this weekend get your Sherlock Holmes mode on and go on a roller coaster ride with "TE3N".
