Outline:
Sarbjit, is a story of struggle of a sister (Dalbir Kaur) to bring her brother (Sarabjit Singh) home. Sarabjit Singh, a farmer from Punjab who mistakenly crosses Indian border and is caught by Pakistani Army.
Story:
A farmer from Punjab's Bikhiwind, Sarabjit Singh (Randeep Hooda), gets drunk with his friend and in that drunken state he crosses the Indo-Pak border, which lands him in Pakistani jail. Unaware of this, his sister, Dalbir Kaur (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) starts looking for him all over the places nearby!
Then after few months Dalbir receives a "chitthi" from Pakistan!
The Pak army officers put Sarabjit in closed wooden container in which he cannot even move! He goes through horrifying torture there. The soldiers torture him to make him say that his name is 'Ranjeet Singh', a person who is accused of Lahore bomb blasts.
As soon as Dalbir understands the whole scenario, her battle to bring her beloved brother to Hindustan starts!
Well that was all about the story of the movie.
About the movie:
In the first 15 minutes there are two songs which almost look like 'Zabardasti add kiye hue gaane!" An attempt to tell an important story but fails to bring justice the real struggle of both, 'Dalbir Kaur and Sarabjit Singh'!
About the actors:
Like I always say, my favourite part of movie reviews.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: She tried her best to get into the skin of the character but the character didn't suit her or you can say there was lack of reality. It almost made me remember character played by her in Guru. (Note: just to some extent)
Everyone had high expectations from Ash, but it seemed, when she was on screen you are not able to connect to her feelings like, her anger, her love for Sarabjit, etc.
Randeep Hooda: Well, Randeep Hooda will never disappoint you when it comes to acting! We were able to connect to his feelings from start to end. The jail scenes are worth mentioning!
Richa Chadda: Plays the character of Sukhpreet (Sarabjit's wife). Less dialogues but she pulls her character very well. Just one disappointment - She never ages!
Last but not the least,
Darshan Kumar:
Well, he enters the film in second half but leaves an impactful performance!
Overall:
Fails not only to connect with the audience but also to bring justice to the real struggle of Sarabjit Singh and his sister Dalbir Kaur! Still you want a reason to watch it, then watch the film for Randeep Hooda and if you are an Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's fan.
