Chalk N Duster: Movie Review (Simple, Sweet yet very heart touching)

We have all been to school and had great fun by making friends, bunking classes, getting punished and we have always seen a teacher as someone who gives us homework, tests, but we have never really thought about her.

We have grown up and become who we are today and behind all this is that lady (our teacher) who has laid the foundations of our personality today. But, how many of us have even thought of at least thanking her? Or have tried to find out about her as to how she is now and what she is doing? Not many of us!

Such things come to light when we see 'Chalk N Duster'. It's a very interesting story and is also very relatable because we've lived this. We all know teachers yet we know nothing about their world. This film is going to open your eyes to things that might be happening in their lives.

A glimpse of the story:

'Chalk N Duster', the name itself speaks a thousand words and when we hear these words, the first thought itself takes us back to our classrooms and from there on all the old school memories gets refreshed.

The story revolves around the lives of two school teachers played by Shabana Azmi and Juhi Chawla who are sacked from their jobs by an ambitious principal played by Divya Dutta who wants to revamp the school. The reason given to them for their termination is the school authorities' feels that they are out dated. So the struggle of these two teachers to reclaim their dignity and status forms the crux of the story.

About the Characters:

Shabana Azmi is seen playing Vidya who is a Maths teacher, has undoubtedly walked away with the trophy. Be it portraying the pain of a veteran teacher who toils hard every day to cover a lengthy journey to reach her school or just a simple conversation with her family members she has nailed it all with her powerful acting skills.

There is a lovely scene in the movie wherein she has a telephonic conversation with her screen husband who is at home while she is lying on the hospital bed and this being a simple sequence she has still added so much of love and warmth in it that your eyes are sure to go wet.

Throughout the movie she proves it to you that no matter how crucial or simple a scene is; a versatile actor can always make it special with their charm.

Juhi Chawla plays a Science teacher named Jyoti. Sweet, innocent yet very strong is what Juhi's character is. Her long and strong monologue about the rights of the teachers is worth applauds. It has managed to touch the chords of our hearts and has lit up the fire that had vanished off in the chaos of the exorbitant lifestyle.

Divya Dutta is the vamp in the movie. She plays Kamini Gupta who is the supervisor of the school but with her cunning tricks manages to become the principal. The wickedness required of her character has been flawlessly portrayed by Divya. Her blunt and aggressive nature on screen has achieved to spread the villainous essence of her role.

Jackie Shroff and Rishi Kapoor have special appearances in the movie. Whatever screen time they received; they managed to create the space of their characters quiet well.

Rishi Kapoor is seen as the host of the quiz show and Jackie Shroff plays the Good Education Entrepreneur.

All-in-all:

This movie which has no intentions of commercial gains and solely wishes to deliver its strong message is worth the tax exemption that it has acquired.

So this weekend if you wish to have a look into the lives of your dear school teachers who are the roots of your foundation then 'Chalk N Duster' is one such movie that you need to watch.

So ring up your friends, gather them and go out to watch this beautiful flick to reminisce your school memories. Just in case your friends don't turn up then grab hold of your family members and take them along because there is a lesson for all!
