Movie Review: ROCK ON!! simply ROCKS...!!!!

Farhan Akhtar in ROCK ON!!" src="http://www.india-forums.com/bollywood/images/uploads/rockon_mr_1.jpg" align="right" border="" vspace="5" hspace="5">Rock On!! is an amazing film, starring Farhan Akhtar, Prachi Desai, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny, directed by Abhishek Kapoor and Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Rock On!! marks the debut of Prachi Desai and Farhan Akhtar as actors. The surprising fact is that the most awaited film of the year doesn’t feature a ‘Khan’, ’Kapoor’ or ‘Kumar’.

The movie Rock On!! can be well defined as the journey of Aditya (Farhan), Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal) , Rob (Luke Kenny) and K.D. (Purab Kohli) who want to see their band ‘MAGIK’ and it’s music at the peak, but ending in vein. This is when, after a few years destiny brings them together to see those dreams again, and fulfill them this time.

The Movie is not just about music. It’s about relationships and how a relationship can get messy and complicated. Rock On!! shows these ups and downs in relationships very beautifully, sensitively and effectively. The only flaw in the movie is its slow pace. But this flaw doesn’t affect much as through out the movie we can relate ourselves to the movie characters, their moods, their egos and their ups and downs.

If Dil Chahta Hai was remembered for Farhan Akhtar’s directorial skills, this one too is headed a long way for his acting Rock On!!

credentials and his share behind the music of the film. Farhan excels right through the film. If we say that he was better than the rest will be absolutely unfair in a film that highlights teamwork. Very often Farhan will keep on reminding you of Aamir Khan from Dil Chahta Hai. Arjun Rampal is the next highlight of the film and no doubt this his best film till date. Arjun delivers his lines really well especially in arguments with his wife (Shahana Goswami) and when he reminds the band of its rules and gets into a brief quarrel. Many often it can be thought that whether Luke Kenny have ever spoken Hindi but in this movie he carries out his role in a very convencing way. He often acts as a backbone of the band and his scenes with Anu Malik are funny but still very realistic. Purab Kohli is their in the film to bring all fun, humour and masti which is associated with any band. For Shahana Goswami's debut she does extremely well. The shades in her character from the Joe’s girlfriend to his wife plagued by problems of running a household are carried out really well. Prachi Desai does a very decent job as the soft spoken wife of Farhan and speaks a lot through her smile.

The person who deserves much credit is the cinematographer of the film, Jason West. The handheld camera movements make you feel as if you were present right through the performance. The lighting is just another treat. The practice sessions, the well light cobweb filled alleys, the emphasis on the instruments are simply brilliant.

The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy was a rage much prior to the realease. The film just enhances it even more and don’t be surprised if you are keep humming tracks like ‘Tum Ho Toh’ once you are done with this flick. Great Job by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy! Kudos Javed Saab!

In a nutshell, ROCK ON!! is an amazing movie that no one just can't afford to miss. This is a film that India can proudly showcase to the West. On the whole, Rock On!! is one movie that will make you smile…effortlessly. So, GO ROCK…!
