Movie Review: Brothers

An official remake of Hollywood film Warriors, the makers could not resist themselves from giving it a Bollywood touch. The film is an emotional family drama with very slow first half and action packed second half.

Just like the Hollywood film Warriors, Brothers is also a story of two brothers David (Akshay Kumar) and Monty (Sidharth Malhotra). However, the twist here is that they are step brothers. Always-there-for-each-other brothers start living separately after their farther Gary Fernandes (Jackie Shroff) kills their mother (Shefali Shah) in a drunkard state. Gary is then sent to jail for his crime, David starts living with his wife Jenny (Jacqueline Fernandez) and her daughter and Monty starts training himself to become a fighter like his father. Later, both happen to take part in the same MMA (Mixed Martial Art) fight tournament. As expected, after defeating all the other fighters, brothers fight against each other in the final round to win the trophy.

The first half takes its own sweet time for the build up and anticipation to the fight, which was all hyped in the promos. While second half is all about David and Monty training for the big fight followed by one by one both the brothers knocking out other extremely trained and experience fighters from the world. The film is packed with emotional and action scenes, leaving no space for any light moments.

The cast is amazing. Watching Jackie, Shefali and Ashutosh Rana on-screen is a treat and one can surely see the experienced actors that they are. Sidharth is really made for serious roles; he was well suited for the character. Though Jacqueline didn't get too much of screen space, she played her part well.

Talking about the loop holes, there were hardly any. The only thing that I noticed was unconvincing fighting scenes. Not a single punch is shown touching anyone; one can easily make out its just sound effect and not a fight at all.

The film will either make you empty your tissue box in the first half or put you to sleep. Talking about the second half, you can skip that watch Raj Kundra's Super Fight League (SFL) for some real action. All-in-all, if you can watch slow, emotional and action drama, you might enjoy the film. The only good part of the film is the entire casts' performance.

P.S.: The movie is also somewhat like another Bollywood film, Apne.
