Movie Review : Tere Mere Phere

Marriages! Chalte Chalte, Saathiya, Shaadi No. 1, Masti, and many more; marriages and its 'badbadi' have always been a hot topic for Bollywood filmmakers. Tere Mere Phere is nothing different. And for the first time on the director's seat is Shah Rukh Khan's maya memsaab, the renowned entertainment personality Deepa Sahi. However, lacking any star attractions, the film hasn't created much of a hype or buzz in the industry. Will the script prove to be a saving grace? All I can say is… you got to be kidding me!

Tere Mere Phere is a story about the battle of the sexes. A made for each other couple, Pooja (Sasha Goradia) and Rahul (Jagrat Desai), who have a perfect love affair and a perfect marriage, set out on a perfect dream honeymoon in a motor home driving through the breath taking Himalayas. But then can life ever be perfect?! If distance makes the heart grow fonder then the too much proximity should have the reverse effect! And it does. As Pooja and Rahul get too close for comfort, the gilt of romance begins to rub off, a series of absurd fights follow and soon they get embroiled with a local Himachali small town guy ( Vinay Pathak) and his girl Muskaan, the "Pahadi Mirch" ( Riya Sen). How the couples' lives get entwined is the story of this film...

Please allow me to take you through the beginning of this film. A husband and wife, on a flight back from their honeymoon, keep pushing each other towards the other side because they can't stand each other (lets yet not get to whether we can). The inconvenience caused to other passenger's leads to a bigger fight and very soon, "all" the passengers on the flight are "beating up" each other (Oh yes, that's what supposed to happen on a flight!). Pilots try to come and sort out the situation, but because something hits their head, both of them faint (You might just wish you were the one fainting!). And lastly, the air hostess is shown crying while people on the flight seem to be on a thrashing spree (It just feels like Mumbai's machchi market has been taken on the flight for a free ride!) And guess what, this scene is one of the least ridiculous scenes of the film. Do I need to say more?

Tere Mere Phere is a disaster! It's stressful to think about any plus points to this film. There's absolutely nothing going for this film. From the direction and screenplay to the performances; everything seems to be shockingly over-the-top! And more than the script, the bigger culprits are its leading stars – Jagrat Desai and Sasha Goradia. Be it the love or the fights, everything about this couple seems ridiculous. Guess what, they both see each other for the first time, and drop their glasses seeing each other! There you go – love at first sight! Arghh! And the constant tu tu main main between them seems exaggerated and stupid. Are they on their honeymoon or 25th marriage anniversary?! At no point do you connect with this couple, or film for that matter.  And this apparent 'comedy' film has absolutely no humor in it. The comic timing (if any exists) falls completely flat. All in all, the film seems tirelessly endless.

Much more was expected from Deepa Sahi's directorial debut, in short, highly disappointing! Even the dialogues given by her are extremely amateurish. The writing, for which she has teamed up with lead actor Jagrat Desai, is as ridiculous as his performance in the film. Cinematographer Christo A Bakalov has done an appropriate job.

Vinay Pathak needs to do some experimenting! From Bheja Fry to Chalo Dilli to Tere Mere Phere; no distinction can be made between any of his performances. It's tiresome to watch him repeat himself again and again. However, he does contribute one or two light moments. Riya Sen is irritating! But then, no offence, what does one even expect from Riya Sen? Don't worry; she just has a special appearance! (Yayy!) However, the main two criminals of this dreadful flick are Jagrat Desai and Sasha Goradia. They don't act! And even saying that they over-act is an understatement. From scene 1 to scene zillionth (yes, it feels that way), Jagrat and Sasha have only been loud, screechy, and unbelievably annoying! And guess what, they are there in the whole movie! The casting directors need a reality check.  Darshan Jariwala is regular. Sushmita Mukherjee is over-the-top too, but being the experienced actor she is, she carries it off well. Rohan Shah gets on your nerves.

Overall, Tere Mere Phere does not only lack a great star cast and decent marketing buzz, but also lacks sense, logic and comedy! As expected, Tere Mere Phere is a torturous affair. Go for this film only if you don't love yourself enough!
