With Indian audience being subjected to the trend of serious heavy - on - the - head cinema in the past of couple weeks with releases such as Not a Love Story and Aarakshan occupying box office and the minds of Indian movie watchers, Bodyguard has been able to alter its way into the trend and break in for good. And moreover on a very special day, Eid. Although with viewers demanding more realistic cinema, everyone needs a break from all the severity and this flick provides just that. It is just that movie which promises wholesome entertainment as long as you leave your brain at home.

Bodyguard is an adaptation of a Malayam movie with the same title directed by Siddique who is also the director and story writer for the original film.

As the title suggests, Bodyguard is a story revolving around a devoted and loyal to his work Bodyguard, Lovely Singh (Salman Khan) who is hired for the protection of Divya (Kareena Kapoor) daughter of Sartaj Rana(Raj Babbar), a powerful and influential personality with a kind and help to all guise. Lovely Singh is highly dedicated to his job, which is in fact not just a job for him but also an act of gratitude towards Sartaj for saving a  woman's life, years ago when she carried Lovely in her womb.

The movie begins with a female voice narrating her love story. But as the movie progresses, the audience tends to forget this very fact. Salman Khan's plays the role of an extra-ordinary Bodyguard but comes across more like a knight in shinning armor with super-heroic abilities where one questions the sanity and is forced to compare it to realism. His ingress in the movie is highlighted with an opening song for "Bodyguard" with Katrina Kaif in a friendly appearance dancing to its tunes. The song is followed by an attention gripping yet highly impossible action sequence with Lovely Singh fighting a bunch of human trafficker goons.

The story then heads off to its main plot wherein Lovely is sent to protect Divya. Initially, Divya tends to despise his presence as she is unaware of the danger to her life and constantly questions the need to deploy a bodyguard to follow her around everywhere. This hinders her regular college life. She then comes up with a plan to distract him and pretends to be a secret admirer of Singh. Although something that starts off as a prank phone call, Divya later realizes that she has actually fallen for Lovely in this make believe little game. Lovely Singh too falls for her oblivious to the fact that it is the very girl he is protecting. He soon finds himself trapped in a love gamble. A strong yet innocent and clean-hearted man, Lovely Singh's character captures the hearts of not only the female but the entire bunch of spectators whilst Kareena Kapoor as the simple Divya looks her gorgeous self. The second half of the movie is a bundle of unexpected twists and turns and captivates the viewer's attention.

A final action sequence is shown with Salman Khan doing his standard super heroic stunts and being the one man army against the lot of attackers. Just like his earlier ventures, Salman Khan doesn't fail to leave without a trademark dialogue with 'Mujh par ek ehsaan karna… ki mujh par koi ehsaan mat karna'

Though the action scenes by Vijay Master lack realism but are maneuvered well and are a treat to watch.

Music directors Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam Chakraborty haven't brought any new or catchy approach to the background score except for Pritam's track 'I love you'. Himesh's  'Aa gaya hai bodyguard' is still of average competence while the rest of the tracks fail to capture any special attention.

Choreography by Ganesh Acharya is good and entertaining especially in the sad track Teri Meri Prem Kahani .Cinematography by Sejal Shah is one of the highlights of the movie. Experimentation with camera angles turns out to be a success. Technically, it's flawless.  Salman Khan successfully upholds his superman, captor image with a remarkable performance. Kareena Kapoor has played more with her eyes and expressions which makes her an actor of high caliber, no doubt.  Hazel Peech being a newcomer does a fair job as the protagonist's best friend and portrays different shades of her character perfectly while Raj Babbar gives his usual best in his provided screen time.

Rajat Rawail as Tsunami brings in comic relief but his bits get rather annoying at some points in the second half of the movie. Aditya Pancholi makes a long-awaited come back with this flick and it can be said that he hasn't quite lost his edge. The director, story and screenplay writer Siddique could not bring his famed humor quotient as much as he did in his previous Bollywood ventures such as 'Hera Pheri' and 'Hulchul'. But he's managed well on the masala quotient. The movie is a fair blend of romance, action and senseless comedy. The direction is excellent and quite commendable which isn't a shocker coming from Siddique, who is acclaimed for the same with the action shots put up well together and the climax moments quite spellbinding.

Although, Salman Khan does his usual best, one can say he has done better in the past with movies of similar genre such as 'Wanted' and 'Ready'. The film follows a very typical run of the mill plot but manages to keep the audience engrossed with almost zero boring moments. All in all, 'Bodyguard' is a good family entertainer that can be enjoyed much after a hard day of reality.
